Job Description:
Residential Care Worker
Our client, an outstanding local authority are seeking to recruit experienced and resilient individuals in the St. Blazey & Redruth area to make a positive change in the lives of children.
You should have experience working with vulnerable children; able to use your own initiative, and work as part of a team. You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and partnership working, to liaise with parents and professionals to ensure a high-level of consistent care is provided.
You will be required to have an enhanced DBS check in date for children.
To be a driver is preferred.
Key Notes:
1. Full time hours available. Both day and night shifts available.
2. Permanent positions after 12-week temporary ongoing period, for the right candidates
3. Working with service users with varying complex disabilities and complex behaviours.
4. Age varies from 6 years – 18 years.
5. A variety of shift patterns available
About you:
6. A good general education and hold a Diploma / NVQ (Level 3) in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) or be willing to work towards this and we will fund this qualification
7. Experience working with children and young people is essential
8. Must be committed and able to commit to full time hours
9. Must be happy working weekends
10. Happy to provide personal care to disabled children and teenagers
11. Experience of providing safe and respectful care to children, young people or adults
12. Candidate needs to be strong, robust, confident working on a 1:1 basis.
Rate of pay:
13. £12.73 an hour - £15.91 an hour
14. Sleep-in flat rate of £87.20
There’s an option for occasional sleep ins also.
Shift times:
15. 7am - 3:30pm
16. 3pm - 9:30pm
17. Sleep in shifts: 9:30pm - 7am
You may have to be flexible to do both shift times.
Main purpose of the job:
18. To be part of a skilled team to ensure the best outcomes, for disabled children and young people.
19. You will encourage the children to have fun, to learn, grow and develop in a safe way.
Responsibilities:
20. To take an active role in the day-to-day care, support and supervision of the children and young people accessing the homes, ensuring that their needs are met as defined within their agreed Care planning documents.
21. To plan, organise and participate in a range of activities which support children to enjoy and achieve, which may also include holiday breaks.
22. To undertake generic household duties, including daily cleaning tasks, laundry management and the preparation and cooking of healthy and balanced meals as required.
23. To be responsible for secure storage and administering of medication in line with the medication policy.
24. To assist in ensuring the physical standards of the home provide a safe and child centred environment.
25. To treat children with care, respect and dignity at all times and act as a positive role model.
26. To recognise and respect each child’s social, educational, health, cultural, spiritual and emotional needs and provide appropriate support to meet these individual needs.
27. You will work shifts which will potentially include a range of early, late, split, weekend and sleep-in shifts as dictated by the needs of the children accommodated in the home.
