Herdsperson – Leicester – £45,000 DOE + Accommodation + Benefits!
The Job:
An opportunity has arisen for a Lead Herdsperson to join a progressive 400-cow, 490-acre dairy farm located in Leicester. The farm operates a split-block calving system and a grazing herd on a fully modernised dairy setup, equipped with the latest technology and infrastructure to optimise productivity and animal welfare.
The Lead Herdsperson will play a pivotal role in the hands-on day-to-day management of the dairy herd, ensuring the highest standards of animal health, welfare, and milk production. Experience in artificial insemination and a proactive, hands-on approach are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing the split-block calving system and assisting with all aspects of calving
- Implementing and monitoring the farm’s grazing system, ensuring efficient grassland utilisation
- Working with the farm's modern dairy systems, including milking routines and automated systems
- Supervising and supporting other staff members to maintain smooth daily operations
- Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and biosecurity protocols
- Recording and analysing herd performance data, including fertility, health, and milk production
- Liaising with vets, nutritionists, and other advisors to ensure best practices are maintained

The Candidate:
- Experience managing or working within a similar-sized dairy operation
- Strong knowledge of grazing systems and split-block calving
- Proficiency and experience in artificial insemination (AI)
- Excellent animal husbandry skills with a focus on health and welfare
- Ability to use and maintain modern dairy systems and technology
- Leadership and team management skills
- Effective communication and organisational abilities
- A proactive, results-driven attitude with a strong work ethic
The Package:
- Salary £35,000–£45,000 per annum DOE
