Otterly obsessed with marine life? So are we! At SEA LIFE Birmingham, home to the UK's only sea otters, Ozzy and Ola, we're searching for a Curator to lead our fin-tastic team in delivering top-tier conservation, animal welfare and jaw-dropping guest experiences.
Located in the heart of Birmingham, SEA LIFE Birmingham transports visitors into an underwater world of discovery. With over 60 displays, including the UK's only 360° Ocean Tunnel, we offer immersive experiences featuring a diverse range of marine life. Our residents include blacktip reef sharks, green sea turtles, gentoo penguins and the UK's first and only sea otters.
The Role
As Curator, you'll oversee the management and development of our displays, ensuring they meet the highest standards of presentation and animal husbandry. Your creative vision will bring innovative animal exhibits to life, providing our guests with compelling reasons to visit. You'll lead and develop a team of aquarists and divers, fostering a culture of excellence in public aquarium management, conservation and education.
Key Responsibilities
* Recruit, manage and train the Displays team, promoting continuous development.
* Ensure exceptional standards of animal husbandry and compliance with legal requirements.
* Develop and implement captivating displays that educate and engage visitors.
* Work closely with the Operations team to deliver comprehensive educational programs and clear conservation messages.
* Oversee budgets, ensuring effective use of resources and cost-efficient solutions.
Qualifications & Experience
* Proven experience in managing animal collections.
* Strong leadership and communication skills.
* Expertise in aquatic animal husbandry and life support systems.
* Familiarity with zoo licensing regulations and project management.
* Commercial awareness and understanding of curatorial roles in achieving business objectives.
