What are we looking for? We are currently looking to recruit a Junior Solicitor who is 1-2 years PQE to support the Court of Protection - Property and Affairs team in Reading. Where will you be based? You will be primarily working from home until we establish an office base within the Southeast. We do rent an office regularly, where other colleagues based in the Southeast collaborate. You would be required to attend any temporary location, pending a permanent location being established, each week on days to be agreed with your supervisor or Team leader. Please note you may be required to travel to other offices. How many hours will you be working? This is a full-time role which is 35 hours per week, however at EMG Solicitors we work flexibly, it’s not a 9 to 5 role, but we do expect the work to be done, when you do it can be largely up to yourself, your Team Leader and the requirements of your clients. A brief overview of the role: This role works within the Court of Protection - Property and Affairs. We actively support one another and place a great deal of emphasis on teamwork. The Solicitor will undertake fee earning work and provide a profitable contribution to the work of the department. They will ensure the successful development of the department and of the firm in line with the business plan whilst ensuring the Client’s needs are met as soon as possible and deal with any issues that arise for them. About the Role Getting paid for the work you do. You will be tasked with undertaking fee earning work and provide a profitable contribution to the work of the department, aiming towards its successful development. You will conduct matters on behalf of clients with all due diligence, in particular ensuring excellence in respect of technical advice, client service, user-friendly language. Ensuring that Client’s needs are met as soon as possible and deal with any issues that arise for them. Participation in business development and marketing activities whether on a firmwide, departmental and/or office basis is a key part of the role, in particular in relation to the development of the Court of Protection Property and Affairs Department. You will be responsible for financial control, including taking monies on account of fees and disbursements when possible and appropriate, record time accurately and in line with chargeable and non-chargeable time targets. You will agree fees with client in advance of billing, whether by agreeing fixed fees or hourly rates with fee estimate (where applicable). You will bill matters promptly and appropriately, seeking to maximise recovery of time spent. Making sure you are billing in line with Court of Protection rules. To be able to perform this job you will need. In terms of qualifications, a good standard of education is required, as well as strong typing/secretarial and Microsoft skills including Excel and Word. Use of management system would also be beneficial. Key skills needed for the role are excellent communication skills, teamwork, attention to detail and ability to use initiative. Ensuring that the firms procedures are always adhered to and followed, respecting client confidentiality at all times. Previous experience in a client facing environment with a good telephone manner would be beneficial, as would experience in a law firm, particularly in a COP P&A department. You will need to have the confidence to inform the team leader of any serious problems you could encounter with client files. You will need to have a positive attitude, with a willingness to learn and complete any relevant training as required.
