In the UK, Safran Seats specialises solely in the First Class and Business Class seating markets for wide body aircraft, with industrial and engineering teams in Cwmbran and Newport, Wales and Brackley, England.
The purpose of this role is to be responsible for the build and development of all mechanical aspects of new product introduction projects undertaken by the industrialisation department. You will support design engineering and operations departments to deliver new customer programmes into production on time, to cost and to a high quality standard. There will also be periodic support required by production, sales, R & T and after market teams to deliver customer requests.
Key Responsibilities
1. Check supplied parts and assemblies to ensure compliance to drawing, design data and all relevant specifications.
2. Represent the department in product design reviews giving feedback on likely issues and improvement opportunities.
3. Analyse product design using CAD models and log issues per company process (5C).
4. Identify assembly and manufacturing process improvement opportunities throughout the product development phase.
5. Build Development articles against CAD model screen grabs/instructions.
6. Analyse development article builds and log issues.
7. Define and validate solutions and countermeasures for 5C issues raised.
8. Build test articles to standard production processes and record deviations.
9. Route harnesses to drawing.
10. View/interrogate product BOMs and locate parts on company's MRP system (BaaN).
11. Rework parts to new design solutions for trial and evaluation.
12. Rework “out of revision” parts to the latest design standard and complete minor rework order form.
13. Maintain the engineering quality and integrity of the work produced within their work package.
14. Work with other departments to ensure that the design solution meets the appropriate airworthiness requirements.
15. Record timings for assembly and disassembly for calculation of cycle times.
16. Identify the need for jigs and fixtures to ensure correct assembly.
17. Generate, validate and revise Process Work Instructions.
18. Fault find and rectify issues.
19. Train production operators in the assembly process of new products.
20. Support product events with customers - PDR/CDR/FAI/FSR.
21. Support off-site activities e.g. installation of products into aircraft.
22. Support the rework of in-service products against warranty claims and service bulletins.
23. Communicate effectively and professionally with other departments, customers and suppliers.
24. Undertake and maintain 5S activities within the department.
25. Participate in (RCA) route cause analysis activities.
26. Generate and implement continuous improvement ideas.
27. Raise requisition for purchase of parts and equipment to meet department needs.
28. Raise permits and concessions in line with company processes.
29. Interrogate LOPA design data to define material requirements for floor jigs and aircraft representative mock ups.
Job Requirements
1. Minimum of BTEC L3 (mechanical engineering) OR suitable depth of relevant experience/time served apprentice.
2. Aerospace/automotive manufacturing experience at defined competent level.
3. Experience of working within company and regulatory processes, standards and specifications.
4. Knowledge of machining operations.
5. Knowledge and use of mechanical fixings - screws, rivets, nails etc.
6. Knowledge of different materials - sheet metal, steel, wood, composite etc.
7. Good knowledge of design for assembly/manufacture principles.
8. Knowledge of additive manufacturing.
9. Knowledge and working of composites.
