Clinical Research Fellow in General Medicine
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board
The post will be a part of the Acute/General medical doctor tier at University Hospital of Wales taking a share of the on-call duties and gaining exposure to a wide range of medical conditions while being fully supported by an appropriate junior and senior team.
Applications are invited for a number of Clinical Fellow 12-month fixed-term posts starting from 5th August 2025.
The posts come with dedicated non-clinical time to work on projects whilst working at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board's sites.
Applicants interested in a purely clinical role and also for less than 12 months would also be welcome but preference is given to people who commit for a year.
Travel as necessary between hospitals/clinics will be required but a planned and cost-effective approach will be expected.
Main duties of the job
TEACHING
The appointee will be expected to help in teaching aspects of diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases to junior medical staff and nursing staff.
RESEARCH
Personal clinical research will be encouraged in addition to participating in current programmes. In particular, participation in the research activities linked to community psychiatry will be encouraged.
ADMINISTRATIVE
You will be responsible for undertaking the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the administration of the department.

Job responsibilities
Current examples of clinical fellow projects include: Undergraduate Education in conjunction with BSMS, research, ultrasound, leadership, simulation and others, however future projects can be tailored depending on personal career needs/interest/development of training.
The Clinical Fellow posts are designed to help build CVs (in work time), as well as to stop you burning out because of too many clinical shifts and bad rostering. Despite being non-training posts, the feedback has been that similar posts in other departments have been brilliant for training and career progression.
You need to have completed F2. Full allowance of annual leave and bank holidays (whether worked or not) are allowed for.

Qualifications
* oMRCP part 1 and 2 written or equivalent MCEM
Experience
* oExperience in UK at post-registration SHO level for 2 years or more.
* oTraining in Radiation Protection or agreement to attend next available course (state higher qualifications if applicable)
* oSome experience at SpR level in both Acute and specialty-related Medicine.
Skills
* oDemonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
* oAudit
* oTeaching
Other
* oInterest in either research, teaching, quality improvement or leadership
* oCurrent GMC certificate with a licence to practise
