About the Position
Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, this role involves working as part of a small engineering team, and will focus primarily on Production engineering, working in collaboration with the Quality Engineers within the team.
The Production Engineer’s purpose is to develop the processes to continually improve, delivering productivity and efficiency, whilst ensuring safety standards and medical devices compliance are maintained. The role is also responsible for developing new Manufacturing processes as part of the new product introduction process.
Production Engineers are responsible for working on multiple projects simultaneously within the business and often requires the individual to work as part of a cross functional team.
Responsibilities:
Health and Safety
* Ensuring relevant health and safety is followed and that all work complies with safety legislation and site policies
* Reporting of hazards, unsafe conditions, and near misses .
* Ensure all equipment and process introductions are compliant to legislation (CE Mark) and have a valid risk assessment
* Ensure any chemicals purchased have a COSHH assessment before use.
Continuous Improvement Projects
* Identify opportunities for improvement, with a focus on improving process robustness to prevent the recurrence of issues.
* Define project scope, objectives and justification
* Execute project within agreed budgets and time scales
Existing Processes
* Ensure any process changes are correctly documented through the appropriate CCF and that all associated documents are updated (Process Flow, PFMEA, Work Instruction, Route Card etc)
* Responsibility for implementation of CAPA, NCR & Customer Complaint actions
* Analyse process performance and barriers to identify opportunities for Continuous improvement
* Utilise structured problem solving to identify the route causes of issues and implement robust solutions
Process Validation
* Agree Process validation plans with the Quality Engineer and execute the validation plans to demonstrate process capability
New Product / Process Introduction
* Participate in Concept & design reviews to ensure design for manufacture opportunities are capitalised on
* Develop robust, efficient processes with a focus on Poka-Yoke features.
* Execute project within agreed budgets and time scale
Quality
* Ensure that CAPA, CCF and Customer complaint procedures are followed and that actions are implemented in a timely manner
* Fully support the Quality Systems Team regarding all finished goods, in process and supplier complaints and non-conformity investigations, providing technical expertise to establish root cause and deliver suitable corrective actions.
Requirements
Essential
* HND or Degree in relevant Engineering discipline
* Proven experience in jigs and fixture design
* Experience in product & process validation
* Proficient in CAD software
* Strong understanding of technical drawings and tolerances
* Experience with CNC machining, turning, and injection moulding processes
* Organised & self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities
Desirable
* Lean 6 sigma qualification
* CAD experience (Creo)
* Experience in surgical products
