Key Responsibilities:Clinical Duties:
* Provide high-level psychiatric care, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with a wide range of mental health conditions such as:
* Depression, anxiety, and mood disorders
* Psychosis, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder
* Personality disorders
* Substance abuse and addiction-related mental health issues
* Neuropsychiatric disorders
* Conduct psychiatric assessments for both inpatients and outpatients.
* Develop individualized care plans, prescribing appropriate pharmacological and psychological treatments.
* Participate in ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and multidisciplinary meetings.
* Manage and supervise the care of patients admitted for acute mental health issues.
* Support the crisis and home treatment teams in the management of community-based patients.
On-Call Responsibilities:
* Participate in the on-call rota for emergency psychiatric care, responding to urgent cases such as psychiatric crises and acute admissions.
* Provide guidance and advice to junior medical staff, nursing teams, and allied healthcare professionals during on-call shifts.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
* Work closely with consultants, psychologists, nurses, and other allied health professionals in the assessment and treatment planning for complex cases.
* Attend and actively contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings to discuss patient care plans and progress.
* Ensure effective communication with community mental health teams, general practitioners (GPs), and social care professionals.
Teaching and Supervision:
* Supervise and support junior doctors (CT1-CT3) and medical students as part of the team’s teaching duties.
* Deliver educational teaching sessions to junior trainees and contribute to their professional development.
* Provide advice and support to the wider healthcare team regarding psychiatric care.
Audit and Research:
* Participate in clinical audits and contribute to service improvement initiatives within the department.
* Engage in research activities, if applicable, related to psychiatry or mental health care.
Administrative and Leadership Responsibilities:
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring compliance with trust guidelines and GMC standards.
* Work collaboratively with the clinical team to ensure timely referrals, discharge summaries, and clinical documentation.
* Take part in case discussions, providing clinical leadership in complex cases.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
* MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery) or equivalent.
* Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
* Completion of Core Psychiatry Training (CT1-CT3).
* Currently enrolled in, or completion of, Specialist Training (ST4-ST6) in Psychiatry.
* Experience in managing a broad range of psychiatric conditions in a variety of settings (inpatient, outpatient, community, and emergency care).
* Section 12 Approval under the Mental Health Act (or working towards obtaining it).
* Up-to-date knowledge of psychiatric treatments, including psychopharmacology and psychological therapies.
Desirable Qualifications:
* Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent qualification.
* Experience in a subspecialty such as Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, or Old Age Psychiatry.
* Experience in leading and participating in clinical audits or quality improvement projects.
* Previous experience in a locum SPR role or covering psychiatric services in a similar capacity.
Person Specification:
* Clinical Skills: Proven ability to manage complex psychiatric cases independently and as part of a team, including emergency situations.
* Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with patients, their families, and the multidisciplinary team.
* Leadership: Strong leadership skills, capable of supervising junior staff and contributing to the development of the mental health team.
* Teamwork: Demonstrates a collaborative approach to working with multidisciplinary teams and external services.
* Flexibility: Ability to adapt to varying work environments and handle a range of psychiatric cases within the NHS setting.

* Flexibility to work locum shifts, including on-call duties.
* Commitment to continuing professional development (CPD) and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of advances in psychiatry.
* Right to work in the UK (applicants must hold the necessary visa or residency status).
