Gilbert Ward Academy, part of Prosper Learning Trust, is delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for a Science Teacher to join our team from September 2025.
We are seeking passionate and dedicated subject specialists who are committed to making a difference in the lives of young people. You will:
* Have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience teaching Science at secondary level
* Demonstrate a strong understanding of the needs of pupils with SEMH and/or Autism Spectrum Conditions
* Be an innovative and adaptable educator, able to engage and inspire students in their learning
* Share our commitment to providing a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where every pupil can thrive
Some of the main responsibilities of the role will include:
* Establishing a purposeful and safe learning environment and supporting learners’ behaviour constructively
* Contributing to the monitoring and development of the required subject/s area to ensure suitable opportunities
* Planning effectively in the short, medium and long – term
* Assessing, recording and reporting on the development and progress of learners
As a purpose-built, state-of-the-art special free school that opened its doors in September 2023, we are dedicated to providing exceptional education for pupils aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Located on Princess Louise Road in Blyth, Northumberland, our academy serves as a beacon of hope and opportunity for our pupils and their families. Since our official opening in September 2023, we have remained dedicated to delivering a personalised, high-quality education that extends beyond academic success. We focus on the holistic development of each child, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge, skills, confidence, and resilience necessary to thrive in all aspects of life.
Our academy currently serves 56 pupils and is set to expand to a capacity of 80 pupils. These roles offer a unique opportunity to contribute to the academy’s growth, delivering high-quality teaching and learning that inspires and supports our pupils to reach their full potential.

Prosper Learning Trust was also recently named as the lead partner in the opening of a new Free School in Jarrow, South Tyneside. This school will be a Special School academy for pupils with SEMH (4-11 years).
The successful candidate will be deployed initially at Gilbert Ward Academy but will be expected to work at any Prosper Learning Trust site should the need arise.
