The area of Structured Trade Finance is specialized in developing sophisticated forms of financings to facilitate international trade, particularly those involving the exchange of goods or commodities. Structured Trade is crucial to promote international trade by providing financing and risk mitigation tools, such that businesses may engage in cross-border transactions with confidence, knowing that the financing structure is tailored to address these complexities and uncertainties inherent in global trade. Our solutions aim to tackle strategic needs of our clients, leveraging on trade flows via mainly a number of products (i) Export Prepayments (ii) Structured PXFs (iii) Borrowing Bases and (iv) Inventory Finance, (v) Contract Monetisation, and (vi) Aircraft Pre-Delivery Payments, but also out-of-the-box solutions tailored to special event-driven situations. If you have an innovative DNA and want to join a growing franchise that is constantly evolving and has become one of the growth engines of Santander's Global Transaction Banking, this is your opportunity WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING As a Vice-President/Executive Director Structured Trade Finance Sales, you will be in charge of the origination and execution of structured trade transactions across the European region. The role would have daily interaction with clients, the Trade Sales team in Europe, the Global Structuring team based in Madrid, but also with Americas and Asian structured trade officers as our transactions are cross-border by nature. Tasks: Drive the origination of Structured Trade opportunities, part of a growing global franchise, in Europe. Prepare tailored-made pitching material with support from the junior members of the team and lead clients´ relationships and interactions. Develop tailor made solutions that meet clients´ needs across sectors, but currently with deep focus on the energy transition: financing battery metals, renewables projects, carbon credits, hydrogen developments, etc. Perform detailed due diligence of the underlying transactions (i.e. analysis of assets reserves, offtakes contracts, annual reports, etc) and come up with ideas to enhance the structure of a proposed transaction. Support the legal negotiation and documentation phase jointly with the Global team based in Madrid, and external & internal lawyers. The candidate should be suited to overcome different structuring, accounting, risk and legal challenges during the lifetime of a transaction. Develop specialized sector expertise, being a key aspect to propose new ideas and gain client trust. You would also have the chance to interact with different stakeholders of our clients: from Treasury, to Trading and Procurement. Our strategy also relies on the collaboration with other SCIB areas combining structured trade offering with ECA-backed coverage, embedding markets/derivatives solutions in our transactions, and extending our offering to project companies jointly with structured finance colleagues. Good management of these stakeholders is also crucial. EXPERIENCE At least 7 years of accredited professional experience in trade finance, structured trade finance, or project finance. Previous experience in law firms or accounting consultancy firms are highly valued. International experience will be a plus. EDUCATION A university degree is required and diverse educational backgrounds are welcome. Studies in Economics and Finance are a qualification as good as a degree in Engineering or in Law, given the variety of tasks and problem-solving required on the job. SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of trade and commodity finance, export finance or project finance. Legal background, accounting experience and markets knowledge will be positively valued. Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel and Power Point). Highly proficient in spoken and written English, and French. Spanish is also a plus.
