This post will contribute to tackling inequalities in health through promoting and supporting pregnant clients to stop smoking. The post holder will provide relationship-based support and tobacco treatment advice to individuals throughout their maternity care journey. The overall aim is to reduce harm caused by smoking for babies and families.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this role are to build supportive and non-judgmental relationships that facilitate open and honest discussions leading to a quit attempt. The main duties include providing behavior change support and Nicotine Replacement Therapy to those who continue to smoke during pregnancy. The post holder will educate women, birthing people, families, and health professionals about the risks of smoking in pregnancy. To ensure the service continues to improve and meet the needs of our community, the successful candidate will support data collection and analysis.
Job responsibilities

1. Work autonomously to deliver tobacco harm reduction (smoking cessation) assessments, behavior change support, and issue Nicotine Replacement Therapy following a clinical assessment of need. The post holder will provide advice on alternative devices to support a quit attempt such as e-cigarettes.
2. Hold sensitive discussions with women and families about the harmful effects of smoking.
3. Work in a variety of settings, including in the clients' homes.
4. Provide maternity-specific training to the maternity multi-professional team on the effects of smoking in pregnancy, smoke-free homes, and interventions to encourage and support a quit attempt.
5. Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the service, including the completion of the minimum data set requirement, including the collection and presentation of data required to demonstrate compliance with Saving Babies Lives and Maternity Incentive Scheme.
Person Specification
* Evidence of appropriate level of education.
* Car Driver.
* Experience of building therapeutic relationships.
* Smoking cessation training.
* Coaching or behavior change skills.
* Able to demonstrate an understanding of the importance of communication.
