Job Description
United Living Infrastructure Services are currently seeking an Environmental Advisor to provide essential environmental support and guidance to teams working on behalf of Northumbrian Water. The role involves:
1. Supporting projects in delivering the company's environmental strategy and ensuring managers take full responsibility for their activities.
2. Providing environmental input during tendering and contract awards.
3. Serving as a single point of contact for environmental advice to project teams, ensuring effective Construction Phase Plans.
4. Offering guidance on environmental sustainability to meet targets, metrics, and net zero objectives.
5. Investigating environmental incidents when required, establishing root causes, and communicating lessons learned.
6. Challenging current practices to incorporate environmental best practices during design and construction without compromising business priorities.
7. Promoting a safe and secure culture through behavior-based coaching and contributing to safety assessments.
8. Sharing lessons with the wider construction industry to promote best practices.
9. Developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, including HSE, Local Authorities, and the Environmental Agency.
10. Providing expert advice on CDM regulation requirements for gas projects across various roles.
11. Supporting project teams to understand their SHE roles and responsibilities.
12. Reviewing documentation, participating in safety meetings, audits, and inspections.
13. Providing independent environmental audits during pre-construction and construction phases.
14. Managing the CDM Risk Register and monitoring temporary works inspections.
15. Assisting with contractor competence reviews and training needs assessments.
16. Reporting monthly H&S data and safety statistics to management.
17. Building internal relationships to resolve issues and foster collaboration.
Qualifications
Interpersonal, Supervisory, or Management Skills:
* Strong interpersonal skills with experience in coaching and motivating teams.
* Effective communication and influencing skills at all organizational levels.
* Ability to recommend preventative actions and develop new initiatives.
* Capability to develop and deliver engaging training and briefing materials.
* Personal determination to achieve business goals.
Technical or Specialist Skills:
* Experience in auditing and root cause analysis.
* Ability to identify resistance patterns and solve problems effectively.
* Good understanding of CDM Regulations related to client, principal designer, and contractor roles.
Essential Qualifications:
* Recognized environmental qualification.
* Knowledge and experience in environmental management.
* Valid full UK driving license.
* EUSR SHEA Water certification.
Desirable Qualifications:
* Membership in a professional environmental or engineering body at incorporated or chartered level.
* NEBOSH Certificate and significant relevant industry experience.
* Training in ISO 9001 / 14001 / 18001 standards.
