Job Title: Classroom Support Assistant – Special Needs
Location: Oldham, Lancashire
Contract Type: Full-Time
Hours: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm
Salary: £83 - £90 per day
DBS: Must be on the update service
About the Role: We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Classroom Support Assistant to join our supportive team, working with young people with special needs in a classroom environment. This role is perfect for individuals passionate about making a difference in the lives of students requiring additional support to reach their full potential.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide tailored support to students with a variety of special educational needs within a classroom setting
2. Assist the teacher in creating a safe and inclusive learning environment
3. Support the development and implementation of individual education plans (IEPs)
4. Facilitate small group activities and one-to-one support as required
5. Promote positive behavior and social skills through reinforcement and appropriate interventions
6. Support students with personal care needs, if applicable
7. Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure a cohesive approach to student support
8. Monitor and report on the progress of students, contributing to evaluations and review processes
9. Update the teacher and relevant staff on the effectiveness of support strategies
10. Assist in the preparation of teaching materials and classroom organization
11. Comply with school policies, safeguarding regulations, and data protection requirements
Requirements:
1. Experience in a UK classroom-based setting is preferred
2. Proven experience of working with young people with special needs is essential
3. Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work well as part of a team
4. Ability to manage challenging behavior calmly and effectively
5. Hold a current DBS on the update service
6. A commitment to professional development and willingness to undertake further training as necessary
7. Flexibility to adapt to various educational settings and student needs
8. A respectful and professional approach, ensuring confidentiality and sensitivity toward students and their families
