Job duties
The Technical Director is responsible for ensuring the delivery of solutions, driving innovation and maintaining both technical & quality excellence within the Company. Working in full collaboration with the senior management team and key stakeholders, this role requires a deep understanding of ventilation systems and associated products, along with strong leadership and strategic thinking skills.
Acting as the technical subject matter expert, the role represents the Company’s best interests, directs the department and facilitates growth via the execution and delivery of technical projects.
• Plan, manage and execute technical projects to ensure adherence to agreed quality standards, timelines and budgets; managing the full project cycle from design, purchasing and execution
• Monitor project performance, identifying potential risks or issues, and implementing corrective actions as required
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution and customer satisfaction
• Managing the R&D department to identify and deliver ways of improving and optimising existing products, providing guidance, mentoring and training as needed
• Act as technical advisor to key clients, understanding their product needs and providing strategic guidance and solutions
• Fostering strong relationships with clients, attending meetings and managing expectations to ensure customer satisfaction
• Develop and implement quality assurance processes and procedures to maintain the highest level of quality throughout the business, conducting technical audits and reviews as necessary
• Oversee delivery of health and safety requirements to required standards throughout the company
• Responsible for aligning technologies and strategies with the Company’s overall objective to improve the efficiency and productivity of processes and services
• Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in manufacturing, and actively seek opportunities to leverage new technologies or methodologies to improve manufacturing processes.
• Support the Directors in any other area of the business as required
• Represent the Company in all forums, both internally and externally. Act as ambassador for the Company
• Ensure internal IT reporting is kept up to date with agreed information
• Full driving licence essential
Knowledge, experience and qualifications
• Educated to degree standard or similar with engineering or relevant subject
• 10+ years relevant senior level technical/design experience from within a transferable role with high level industry/market knowledge and awareness
• Demonstrable technical bias with proven track record in successfully leading technical teams and delivering complex projects
• Strong technical and product knowledge; able to impart knowledge in a clear, understandable way to key stakeholders
• Excellent understanding of industry regulations and advances in new products, brands, technologies and systems; ability to keep abreast of changes
• Experienced line manager – ability to reward and develop department members, supporting and empowering staff to best of their abilities
• Appropriate qualifications and training relating to HVAC, Ventilation, Air Movement, M&E, as well as health and safety, IT, management and training
• Excellent communication skills are essential to the role; able to successfully engage with people at all levels, to explain and promote technical adherence and advancement
• Proven ability to build relationships with clients, contractors, distributors, etc.
• Authoritative in style, approachable and confident, always acting with integrity
• Adept and confident at delivering meetings and presentations, including at senior level both internally and externally.
• Strong planning and project management skills; able to manage multiple priorities with natural eye for detail
• Ability to understand and interpret financial information & budgets to enable appropriate decision making
• Excellent and up to date IT knowledge
• Relevant professional memberships and member of relevant trade associations
