Duties & Responsibilities: Clinical Participate in the provision of the highest possible standard of physical, psychological, social and spiritual nursing care of patients, their relatives and friends To assess, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care reporting changes to the senior nurse. To provide and maintain a high standard of skilled nursing care. To work within the agreed nursing procedures. Promote and maintain accurate patient records in accordance with Douglas Macmillan Hospice policy, national guidance and requirements. To participate in health promotion and the prevention of illness. The post holder will at all times be personally accountable for professional and ethical actions, ensuring compliance with the NMC Code of Conduct; failure to do so will be viewed as a disciplinary matter. Management To take charge the nursing team to which you are assigned, in the absence of the senior staff nurse. To take charge of the Inpatient services in the absence of the Head of Inpatient Services and Sister/ Senior staff nurse. To supervise and organise work as appropriate. To ensure the hospice policies and procedures are implemented by all staff on the IPS. To promote effective communication with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure total patient care is delivered on the IPS. To participate in measuring the quality of service provision by the use of audit mechanisms. Education Demonstrate a commitment to personal, professional development by keeping up to date with current issues in nursing and specialist palliative care practice To identify personal training and educational requirements of self and other staff. To participate in continuing education and in-service training in order to maintain an up to date level of professional knowledge and skill and demonstrate through competencies. To acquire and maintain clinical expertise in symptom management. To contribute towards professional development of the nursing team and demonstrate procedures to new staff through competencies. To remain up to date with current NMC guidelines Personal/ Professional Development Actively participate in an annual appraisal to include the identification of personal development needs against your job description Demonstrate a commitment to personal, professional development by keeping up to date with current issues in nursing and specialist palliative care practice Maintain own revalidation and registration Work within the NMC Code and professional guidance Recognise own need for support.
