Belmont Recruitment are currently seeking a skilled MOT Tester / Light Goods Vehicle Technician to work with Stoke on Trent City Council on a temporary assignment. This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for keeping our operational fleet (and external customer vehicles) safe and roadworthy, dealing with repairs and servicing, and MOT testing (Class 4, 5, and 7).
Main Duties:
* Carry out repairs, maintenance, and servicing for both the Council’s fleet and external customer vehicles (including plant, trailers, and equipment)
* Conduct MOT tests for Class 4, 5, and 7 vehicles, plus suitability tests for Hackney Carriages and Private Hire Taxis
* Diagnose and resolve faults across a variety of systems, including electrics, hydraulics, and pneumatics
* Attend vehicle breakdowns to complete roadside repairs or arrange recovery
* Carry out bodywork repairs, including panel beating and engineering fabrication
* Ensure all completed work meets safety, operational, and roadworthiness standards before vehicles are returned to service
* Maintain accurate records of work completed using both manual and electronic systems
* Use diagnostic and maintenance software to identify faults and track completed work
* Collect and deliver vehicles, plant, and equipment to and from suppliers, repairers, and user departments
* Assist in compliance checks for vehicles and drivers before they leave site
Essential Criteria:
* Time-served technician or NVQ Level 3 qualified
* DVSA Certificate for MOT Testing (Class 4, 5 & 7)
* Strong all-round vehicle maintenance and repair experience
* Knowledge of relevant Health & Safety, vehicle legislation and diagnostics
* IT skills to work with maintenance management software
