Job overview
An exciting new position to join the Merseycare NHS Trust's Mailroom within Maghull Health Park. The Mailroom is presently located within the Central Services Building and provides mail delivery service to the Secure Division and the wider trust checking compliance with the security requirements of Secure Services.
Main duties of the job
* To collect all mail from the Royal Mail Sorting Office, using hospital vehicle.
* Collection and delivery of mail to all listed locations prepared by manager.
* Frank all external mail for the Secure Division and wider trust, prioritising Special Delivery, Recorded Delivery, Air Mail and 1st Class.
* To complete x-raying and/or security checks, in line with Tilt recommendations, of all goods to be delivered into the Secure Area of Ashworth Hospital & the rest of the Secure Division. Check, note and raise awareness of any illegal or restricted items, such as weapons, explosives, drugs etc, with line manager. Investigate any suspicious items in line with departmental and hospital procedures. Adhere to the Patients Possession Policy regarding stopping any items not permitted. Fill in all paperwork relating to the same.
* Documenting patient’s property when received through Royal Mail or couriers, e.g., clothing, videos/DVDs/CDs/cassettes on PACIS (Patient Administration Clinical Information System).
* Outgoing service users’ correspondence to be x-rayed and personal items to be disposed of on PACIS (Patient Administration Clinical Information System).
* Sort and distribute on a daily basis, newspapers and magazines to patients.
* Financial - Remove and receipt any cash, cheques or postal orders within patient mail/parcels and forward it on to the hospital cashier.
* To follow all protocols in place when dealing with new psychoactive substances (NPS).

Knowledge and Experience
* At least six months office experience.
* Working knowledge of office related software packages.
* Experience of working in the NHS in a role managed by a supervisor or facilities management assistant.

Qualifications
* Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent.
* Must have worked in a mailroom environment or prepared to be trained and developed as such.
