Bishopgate Medical Centre is a large 13600 patient practice based in Bishop Auckland. Owing to retirement, we are looking to recruit a practice nurse to join our nursing team which consists of 6 Practice Nurses, 4 HCAs, and 1 Nurse Associate. We are flexible in terms of Full Time / Part time for the right candidate.
Main duties of the job
The ideal candidate will have experience in General Practice and all duties such as Smears, Ear Syringing, Dressings, and Immunisations. However, consideration will be given to candidates without General Practice experience. Skills dealing with Asthma, COPD, and Diabetes would be a bonus but not essential.
About us
The practice has 5 GP Partners, 3 Salaried GPs, 5 ANPs, 6 Practice Nurses, 4 HCAs, 1 NA, and approximately 15 admin staff. Many of the staff have worked here for many years and turnover is incredibly small. No evening or extended hours working.

JOB TITLE: PRACTICE NURSE

HOURS: 22 - 37 hours per week
Job Summary:
The Practice Nurse will work as part of the primary healthcare team providing General Medical Services to the patients of Practice.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs.
2. Cytology when qualification obtained.
3. Removal of Sutures.
4. Travel Appointments.
5. ECGs.
6. Asthma/Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry.
7. Venepuncture.
8. Ear syringing.
9. Routine immunizations such as B12, Influenza, Pneumonia.
10. Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician.
11. Requesting pathology tests.
12. Contraception including pill checks, depo provera once suitable qualifications obtained.
13. Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate.
14. Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms.
15. Inform the Practice Manager of vaccinations needed to maintain stock levels.
16. Participation in administrative systems in the Practice.
17. At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records.
18. A duty to advise senior nurses of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks.
19. Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.
20. Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post.
Person Specification
Experience
* Working as a nurse in a Hospital, Community, General Practice setting for at least 1 year.
* Experience in a GP Practice.
* Experience in Chronic Disease.
Qualifications
* NMC Registration as Qualified Nurse.
