Your mission
Are you a scoop-hungry reporter keen to make your mark on the national stage? Do you have the desire to beat the national newspapers to the exclusives on some of the hottest topics around?
If so Faversham House are recruiting a junior reporter to join Utility Week, the UK’s only trade title for energy and water companies. We’re looking for someone to become an integral part of Utility Week’s news team, helping to shape our award-winning news and analysis output and playing a part in setting the agenda for the sector. Making new contacts and gaining the confidence of industry figures.
Our ideal candidate will also be excited about the potential for multimedia formats, including contributing to our fledgling podcast.
* Full time: 35 hours Monday to Friday, Hybrid working
* Office: East Grinstead – walking distance to the station, onsite parking

Your profile
Our ideal candidate would be a recent journalism graduate, or someone with 1-2 years’ worth of experience, who is looking to hone their skills and is hungry to source and break stories relevant to our audiences. More than qualifications we are looking for evidence of a hunger to break the news and get to the bottom of stories as well as an ease with talking to people and establishing relationships.
Person specification
* NCTJ (or equivalent journalism qualification) and some newswriting experience
* Excellent writing skills and strong journalistic instincts, with a proven ability to identify the angle to a story
* Working understanding of media law (defamation, contempt, copyright, etc)
* Shorthand is desirable but not essential
* Strong interpersonal skills, including good telephone manner and the confidence to network with senior figures in the utilities sector
* A willingness to learn and a passion to break news stories
