We are looking to recruit one full time or two part time Healthcare Assistants. Experience is preferable and training will be given as needed. The ideal candidate will be someone who is keen to learn and extend their role.
You will work from both our main and branch surgery alongside our multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
JOB SUMMARY:
1. To assist trained clinical staff to care for patients at the surgery.
2. To undertake delegated tasks independently as directed by a qualified Nurse or Doctor once deemed competent by the surgery.
3. To report to the nursing/clinical staff any changes or concerns about patients immediately.
4. To work as a team member demonstrating a consistent level of interpersonal and communication skills.
5. To maintain skill/competence and undertake appropriate training in order to achieve this namely the HCA Care Certificate.
6. To work safely, legally and ethically with respect to the cultural, emotional and diverse needs of others.
About us
Fitzalan Medical Group is based in Littlehampton, West Sussex. It has a main surgery in the heart of the town near the beach and has a branch surgery in Wick, Littlehampton. It currently has over 16,000 registered patients and is part of a Primary Care Network with Angmering Medical Group in nearby Angmering.
We have a large multi-disciplinary team consisting of Doctors, Nurses, ANPs, Paramedic Practitioners, Clinical Pharmacists, HCAs, Social Prescribers, Physiotherapists and a strong supporting team of Managers and Administrative staff.
We are a training practice for GPs and also have several staff undertaking extended roles in Independent Prescribing and Advanced Practice.
We have a diverse practice population and some of the most deprived areas in our practices' catchment compared to the rest of West Sussex.
We are looking for an enthusiastic HCA who is keen to train and extend their skills. Training will be given as needed. Hours are negotiable - full or part time.
Job responsibilities
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
1. Phlebotomy/butterfly blood sampling
2. Simple Dressings
3. ECGs
4. Blood pressure monitoring & 24 hour B/p monitoring
5. Urine testing/Sample collection/Preparation of specimens ready for collection
6. Peak Flow recording
7. Height/Weight/BMI recording
8. Assist in medical emergencies e.g. CPR
9. Computer information input
10. Assisting nurses / doctors with complex procedures
11. Provide advice and support to patients and carers where appropriate and within own levels of competence
12. Ensure clinical waste is placed for collection
13. Maintain supplies in Consulting and Treatment rooms
14. Attend and participate in Nursing and Clinical team meetings
15. Attend appropriate training and updates
16. Complete HCA Core Competency training
17. Adopt a flexible attitude to take account of changes within the service
