Summary This is an outstanding opportunity for a proactive and enthusiastic in vivo Scientist to join the IIUK in vivo team and work closely with cross-functional teams (both internally and externally). Utilising their in depth knowledge, the candidate will have a vision on how the in vivo team can support all aspects of early target identification, target validation and drug discovery programs. The candidate must be comfortable working in a fast paced environment and will collaborate with a passionate, multidisciplinary team to validate proprietary targets and contribute to drug discovery programs. Responsibilities Responsibilities Work with program leads and senior leadership team on overall in vivo project plans. Oversee the import, breeding and expansion of colonies to provide experimental cohorts for the different programs. Take the lead for the design and generation of mouse models (including both rederivation and generation of novel models) to support all programs. Support the design, implementation, and evaluation of in vivo studies to enable target identification, target validation and drug discovery across different projects. Carry out lab-based work with animals followed by review and analysis of endpoint data including genotyping of mouse models, phenotypic data, image based analysis, PK/PD studies, etc. Prepare study reports, summaries and regulatory documents. Lead continuous improvement activities, applying problem solving skills to identify workflow efficiencies and implement technology solutions to enhance processes. Work with internal stakeholders to ensure learning is captured and incorporated into processes and practices. Actively contribute to a vibrant and innovative working environment where improvements and new ideas are adopted and freely shared among the teams. Work collaboratively with Bioinformatics and Human Genetics teams to gain an integrated biological understanding of target biology and its role in disease. Scientific coaching and mentorship of colleagues in our matrix based team. Position Requirements More than 5 years’ experience in a relevant scientific discipline and strong scientific background working with in vivo models. Expertise in a neurodegenerative disease area would be advantageous. UK Home Office licence holder with proven in vivo experience and experimental skills working with animal models (preferably within biotech companies). Experience in colony management to expand imported or newly generated models and generate experimental cohorts. Understanding of genome engineering and transgenic technologies for generating animal models would be advantageous. In depth understanding of requirements around regulated procedures and Home Office licence requirements, providing welfare advice and support for ongoing projects. Attention to detail, excellent analytical skills and an understanding of statistical methods, preparation of reports, summaries, electronic database entries and regulatory documents. Experience with mouse phenotyping (behavior and/or image based) would be advantageous. Experience in complex dosing routes such as IT, ICV and ICM would be advantageous. Experience working on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise. Experienced at managing complex external collaborations and partnerships to successfully achieve project goals. Desire to work in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment, showing agility/flexibility to meet deadlines and goals. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
