Charlie House supports babies, children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions, and their families, across the north-east of Scotland. We are seeking a Philanthropy Manager within the Fundraising & Marcomms team at Charlie House to play a crucial role in in securing high value donations from major donors and Trusts and Foundations.
Reporting to the Director of Fundraising, the post holder will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategic plan to deliver five to six figure gifts from major donors, trusts and foundations. Working to agreed income targets, you will proactively lead the cultivation and stewardship of prospective and existing supporters, with a focus on growing major donor income, harnessing the support of volunteer networks, warm supporters, and prospect research.
This post will play a key role in helping Charlie House raise vital income so that local children and families can get the support they need and help drive forward our Big Build Appeal to create a specialist care centre in Aberdeen for children, providing much needed respite, palliative and end-of-life care in the region.
We are looking for someone with 2-5 years’ experience in relationship building and in delivering income targets, whether in a fundraising environment or a similar role where comparable skills can be used to engage with high-level supporters and prospects. This role is for a poised, confident and compelling communicator, who excels at relationship building. You will have strong writing, presentation, negotiation, and networking skills, with a determination to succeed against financial targets so that local children can get the support they need to live life to the full.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, with a requirement for occasional unsocial hours for events, networking etc.

Role purpose
•To generate high value income by proactively securing five to six figure gifts from charitable Grants and Trusts and high net-worth individuals (HNWIs)
•To provide exceptional stewardship and engagement to a portfolio of high value donors, ambassadors and Board members.
Responsibilities
Main Duties
•Support development and implementation of a high value strategy and programme (Grants & Trusts and Major Donors)
•Assist in the preparation and delivery of budgets, annual targets and KPIs
•Create and manage a robust pipeline of 70-100 major donor and Grant & Trust funders, including researching and identifying new prospects, and undertaking due diligence
•Build solicitation and engagement plans for prospects and donors, with an emphasis on leading, developing and securing five to six figure gifts
•Gather information and case studies, to distil and craft high quality, well-articulated cases for support, grant applications and funding proposals
•Work closely with appropriate services team and Finance team to prepare budgets for funding bids and develop strong applications
•Develop and manage the Ambassador Programme to support the growth and sustainability of major donor income
•Support activities of the Capital Appeal Board
•Ensure that accurate and timely reports and updates are created and sent to all Grant and Trusts, meeting their reporting criteria
•Deliver a calendar of engaging high value stewardship and engagement that promotes repeat giving
•Organise and support high value cultivation and stewardship events to engage donors and prospects with the work of the charity
•Be first point of contact for legacy and gift in will enquiries, gifts, and administration.

•Assist the Director of Fundraising as required
•Ensure regulatory compliance with internal policy and external legislation, practices and policies, including GDPR
•Utilise the CRM SalesForce to support fundraising activity, including recording restricted/unrestricted gifts, pledges, Gift Aid, manage donation/pledge reminders, annual gift tracking and follow up – training will be given
•Attend meetings, conferences and events pertinent to trusts, major donors and other relevant sources of funding
•Attend networking events representing Charlie House as required
•Maintain up to date sector knowledge and skills.

•The post holder will be a member of the Fundraising and Marcomms Management Team (FMMT), led by the Director of Fundraising
•The post holder will work collaboratively across departments including but not restricted to Community and Events fundraising, Corporate fundraising, Marcomms, Services, Volunteering, Finance, and the Chief Executive Officer
Financial dimension•The postholder will be responsible for delivering agreed income targets annually
•Delivery of personal objectives and achievement of outcomes and key performance indicators
•Supporting the development and implementation of the High Value fundraising strategy, and the wider fundraising and marcomms strategy
Other considerations•You may be required to occasionally work out with normal office hours to attend meetings or events. You may also be required to travel throughout the North-east although expenses are covered and time off in lieu is given where possible.
•Promotion of Charlie House is an integral part of the role, and as such, you may be required to feature in our, articles, website and social media.
Essential experience
•2-5 years’ experience of working in a fundraising environment or similar relationship management role where comparable skills can be used to engage with high-level supporters and prospects
•Previous experience of writing and delivering compelling applications, pitches and/or proposals
•Proven track record of delivering upon financial targets

Desirable knowledge and experience
•Previous experience of developing high value relationships (Grants and trust fundraising or major donor fundraising)
