About the Role
As a Learning Support Assistant (LSA), you will be at the heart of empowering students in their educational journey. Collaborate closely with teachers to deliver personalised and group support, enhancing students' academic abilities and understanding. You'll also be instrumental in preparing lesson materials, facilitating engaging classroom activities, and actively contributing to students' growth and success.
Key Responsibilities of a Learning Support Assistant (LSA)
1. Crafting Personalised Learning Plans: Collaborate with teachers to develop customised learning strategies tailored to each student's unique needs. Continuously evaluate and adjust these plans to ensure they remain effective and relevant.
2. Focused Academic Interventions: Provide individual and small group support to help students improve their academic skills. Implement evidence-based techniques to enhance students' reading, writing, and comprehension abilities.
3. Promoting Effective Study Habits: Teach and reinforce study techniques that help students engage with their studies. Encourage positive interactions and model appropriate behavior to foster a supportive learning environment.
4. Creating Inclusive Classrooms: Work alongside classroom teachers to implement strategies that promote a positive and inclusive atmosphere. Assist in addressing learning challenges and nurturing a culture of respect and cooperation.
5. Tracking Student Progress: Maintain detailed records of students' progress and the interventions used. Regularly update teachers, parents, and other relevant parties to ensure a coordinated approach to each student's development.
6. Providing Comprehensive Support: Collaborate with counselors, social workers, and other professionals to address the broader needs of students and their families, ensuring holistic support.
Requirements of a Learning Support Assistant (LSA)
1. Relevant Experience: Previous experience as a Learning Support Assistant or in a similar role.
2. Special Educational Needs (SEN) Expertise: Experience working with SEN students is essential.
3. Passion for Student Support: A genuine enthusiasm for helping students succeed in their educational journey.
4. Strong Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
5. Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
6. Educational Qualifications: Relevant qualifications or training in education are desirable.
