Job Purpose:
Under the supervision from the Underwriting Management team and operating strictly within FSA Principles and Guidelines, the post holder will review policy documents and make underwriting recommendations in line with company guidelines and rating process. Ensuring that all queries are reviewed and followed up and providing excellent customer service at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Review and decide clients' suitability for insurance cover.
2. Check insured's previous claim history, if any, and comment accordingly.
3. Liaise with surveyors regarding risk assessment.
4. Gather information and/or reports from surveyors.
5. Specify any conditions to be imposed, as appropriate.
6. Assess and gather background information on individual risks.
7. Review and interrogate proposal forms and calculate potential risk.
8. Within underwriting guidelines and parameters, calculate individual's/organisation's insurance premiums.
9. Preparation of referral documents for presentation to insurers.
10. Ensure a high standard of service is offered to all clients.
11. Liaise with all counterparts within the business on an ongoing basis.
12. Undertake any other duties as reasonably required.
Key Skills & Experience:
1. Ability to develop and maintain accurate records and files.
2. High level of technical skills in order to use personal computers and related software applications.
3. Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
4. Experience of making underwriting recommendations and decisions in a similar insurance environment.
5. Ability to make accurate underwriting recommendations based on the information supplied, in line with company guidelines and rating system.
6. Good knowledge of FCA Principles and how they relate to the role of Underwriter.
