Job Overview:
Machine and Process Design Engineers to join our clients dynamic design team on a 6 month contract. You will play a crucial role in the design and development of their "Factory / Process & Production Machines of the Future" specifically for the production of rail track fixing clips.
Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with the existing design team to develop innovative machinery and processes.
* Design and optimize manufacturing processes to increase production.
* Work on-site to ensure seamless integration and functionality of new machines and processes.
* Create modular production line designs.
* Develop flexible machine forming centres/stations with interchangeable forming heads.
* Implement in-process testing and control mechanisms to enhance Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD) metrics.
* Replace existing robotic handling solutions with simpler, more efficient alternatives.
Education/Work Experience Requirements:
* Proficiency in SolidWorks.
* Proven experience in machine and process design, particularly in industrial manufacturing environments.
* Ability to proactively identify and solve design challenges without waiting for detailed instructions.
* Hands-on experience with the following core processes: Cutting to length straight and coiled bar stock, Heating bar to 1000°C, Forming via press, servo head, hydraulic, and robotic forming, Quenching, Tempering, Painting, Plastic cover fitting, other minor assembly, and inspection, Packing (currently sack),
* Familiarity with modular design principles and international power/safety/machine regulations.
* Strong understanding of production processes and quality control measures.
Preferred Skills:
* Experience with in-process testing and quality control integration.
* Knowledge of value stream mapping (VSM) and quality data analysis.
* Understanding of outsourcing processes like quenching, tempering, washing, painting, and powder coating.
* Familiarity with handling a variety of product families with different forming and processing requirements.
