Job overview
Interviews to be held on 8th May 2025
This post joins existing consultants in the continued provision of a Rheumatology service in Coventry and Rugby. These are replacement full-time posts in a busy teaching hospital. The appointees will support the current Rheumatology team; to make up the total complement of 8 consultants and will be expected to undertake clinics at UHCW and St. Cross Hospital in Rugby and support the day-case Unit and junior doctors. This post has a focus on General Rheumatology, but opportunities will be provided to pursue and develop a specialist interest (e.g. Connective Tissue disease/Vasculitis).
Clinic templates can be scheduled for new patients only (6-7 new patients per clinic, depending on case mix), review clinics only (10-15 patients per clinic, again depending on case mix) or combined new/review clinics, with a maximum of 3 new patients and up to 8 follow ups. Templates should be reduced for specialist clinics where there are high proportions of patients with more complex needs. A standard operating procedure and technology exists to enable clinics to be delivered virtually, if appropriate and preferred.
Main duties of the job
Candidates with CCT in GIM could have the opportunity to take part in the out of hours General Medical Rota (currently 1 in 9), attracting an additional 1.0 PA, if appropriate. If this was relevant, Rheumatology clinical activity would be reduced by 0.5 clinics per week for consultants on the GIM rota to take account of rest periods.
There is currently a contractual on call commitment (for existing rheumatology patients and new referrals), plus advice and guidance to primary care and to colleagues in other specialties relating to Rheumatology problems. As it currently stands this would be a 1 in 8 commitment, paid as ‘low intensity’. Time in Lieu will be considered where necessary. The appointees will also provide emergency cover during leave of absence of colleagues.
Appointees will be expected to maintain close links with other medical and surgical specialties, as appropriate, and would be supported and encouraged to collaborate where this compliments any specialist interest.
