Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.
We are currently seeking an Associate Fire Engineer to join our UK team. This role is vital to help deliver our growing portfolio of exciting projects and to assist in the development of our diverse, innovative, multi-cultural and self-motivated team of fire safety consultants.
The Opportunity
The successful candidate will manage the fire safety input to a range of different projects, oversee and mentor engineers, with support by the project director and the wider team. The role will involve interactive and collaborative working with fire safety colleagues and multidisciplinary teams at Arup. A history of gaining consent for prescriptive and performance-based design solutions from approving authorities is also important.
Is this role right for you?
The successful candidate should be able to identify and pursue new project opportunities in our North Region in cities like Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast, Newcastle, and Tees Valley where Arup have offices. You should be able to service and successfully deliver projects in various sectors, with a specific emphasis on experience in the delivery of process engineering and energy and water related projects. The successful candidate will complement our fire safety team and help deliver fire safety engineering services for our clients. You will be part of a 250+ strong fire safety skills network across 20 offices around the World. You will also contribute to the success of our UK based group of Technical Specialists, with an integrator or entrepreneurial mindset, looking for opportunities to bring specialist services to Arup clients.

* Deep knowledge of applicable legislation and guidance used in the UK, and appreciation of the new regulatory regime as well as associated standards and industry guidance across a range of sectors.
* Competency in directing client and stakeholder meetings, and ability to explain technically complicated fire safety matters to lay persons to enable informed course of action.
* Familiarity with RIBA Plan of Work or other design frameworks (e.g. GRIP / PACE).
* Competency in negotiation and agreement of scope, fee, contractual terms and conditions with clients. Comprehension and management of the scope and relevant programme constraints of projects, background in project change management and of financial performance on projects.
