Thalia is seeking a Shift Team Leader to lead and supervise our Control Room teams, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operations in line with our business strategy. In this role, you will oversee all plant and process-related matters, ensuring energy production is maximised while maintaining the highest health, safety, and environmental standards.
This role is key in driving operational excellence, creating a culture of teamwork, and contributing to the overall success of our waste-to-energy operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure production output is maximised while adhering to all health, safety, and environmental policies.
* Supervise and deliver tasks to agreed standards, timescales, and safety protocols.
* Provide leadership and direction to the production shift team, managing individual and team performance.
* Act as a Senior Authorised Person, managing all aspects of the Safe System of Work, including plant and apparatus release.
* Monitor the operational performance of the team, providing guidance, advice, and leadership.
* Conduct performance reviews, manage attendance, and oversee disciplinary procedures as required.
* Motivate team members, fostering a culture where individuals can contribute to their full potential.
* Provide and organise training to ensure the team remains competent and up to date with operational and safety procedures.
* Supervise Operations Technicians, offering technical advice and support during dynamic conditions such as unit start-up or trip.
* Manage safety documentation, including plant isolation, high-voltage switching, and issuing safety permits in line with Thalia Safety Rules.
* Maintain and optimise plant performance by identifying improvement areas and implementing solutions.
* Liaise with external stakeholders, such as Northern Power Grid, regarding power export/import levels.
* Take responsibility for monitoring rotating machinery, turbines, generators, and associated processes.
* Act as Emergency Controller, managing site emergencies safely and in line with local procedures.
* Produce detailed reports for any health, safety, environmental, or operational incidents.
* Support projects and initiatives aimed at improving plant efficiency and reliability.
* Participate in HSE forums and champion health, safety, and environmental initiatives.
Person Requirements
Qualifications:
* Supervisory Management training.
* NEBOSH
Skills and Experience:
* Strong leadership and team-building abilities.
* Excellent organisational and planning skills, able to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively.
* Proficient in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
* Strong problem-solving and motivational skills.
* Effective communicator with excellent interpersonal and customer relationship skills.
* Proven experience in a supervisory role, ideally within the Energy from Waste sector.
* Experience in Power Generation or Petrochemical industries may also be considered.
* Strong management skills with the ability to lead a multidisciplinary team.
* Proactive and self-motivated, with a focus on achieving business objectives.
* Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills to foster collaboration.
* A commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
* Comprehensive understanding of commercial processes, plant operations, and maintenance requirements.
* Knowledge of rotating machinery, turbines, generators, and electrical distribution systems up to 33KV.
