Introducing ourselves
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Housing Standards Team for an innovative, enthusiastic and confident Housing Practitioner. The successful applicant will provide technical support in relation to inspecting residential accommodation and identifying health and safety hazards under the Housing Health & Safety Rating System (HHSRS). The role will focus primarily on the licensing and standards of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) throughout the borough.
Job requirements
We are keen to appoint an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with previous experience in inspecting and surveying premises.
The successful candidate must be flexible in their approach to work, which is often reactive, and possess good communication skills. They must be able to work as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision. The main responsibilities will include:
1. Inspecting premises and producing detailed technical reports.
2. Issuing licenses and liaising with landlords and managing agents.
3. Representing the authority as an expert witness in court cases relating to housing.
4. Serving statutory notices, civil penalties, and gathering evidence to prosecute for non-compliance with legislation.
The post will be based in Southport and will include home working.
