Ward 7A/CCU is looking to appoint a ward clerk to join our team. An opportunity has arisen to recruit a full-time ward clerk to work alongside the multidisciplinary team on ward 7A.
We are a 26-bedded ward looking after medical and cardiology patients with a purpose-built monitored bay. Ward 7A has a well-established team who are friendly and welcoming.
Main Duties of the Job
Working as a multi-disciplinary team, we are committed to delivering the highest quality of care to our patients with the support of our essential administrative staff.
The successful applicant will be responsible for a variety of duties including:
1. Answering telephone calls and recording patient admissions, transfers, and discharges using electronic systems.
2. Filing hard copy documentation and managing medical & nursing notes.
3. Sending and receiving documentation to and from departments, staff, and other hospitals.
4. Liaising with other departments/staff to obtain/deliver information relating to patients and department management.
5. Ensuring correct personal details of the patient and staff are on all documentation.
6. Maintaining and updating Medway as necessary.
7. Preparing nursing documentation for patient admission to the ward.
8. Maintaining staff electronic records including details of training attended/completed.
9. Delivering departmental post, messages, and patient property.
10. Assisting with ordering and arranging ambulance/transport for transfers, discharges, and follow-up appointments.
11. Filing all documentation into case notes and preparing case notes and x-rays for solicitor requests.
12. Ensuring adequate levels of nursing documentation are available.
13. Maintaining a clean and tidy ward office and nursing stations.
14. Complying with all Trust Risk Management, Research Governance, and Infection Control Policies.
15. Undertaking mandatory training including infection control and complying with all relevant Trust Infection Control policies.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Good general education to GCSE standard.
* Computer course, i.e., ECDL (desirable).
Knowledge & Experience
* Computer knowledge/key board skills.
* Relevant NHS experience.
* Experience in an administrative post.
* Understanding of Information Governance & Data Protection (desirable).
Skills
* Excellent written and verbal skills.
* Ability to work effectively as both an individual and as a team.
* Ability to plan, monitor, and organise own workload.
* Ability to deal with the public and relatives in a calm and effective manner.
Other Requirements
* Role involves sitting, standing, and walking.
* Role involves delivering to other departments (i.e., referrals, case notes).
* Ability to take telephone calls with enquiries and relay accurate information/messages.
* On rare occasions, can be subjected to distressing or emotional circumstances.
