The Royal Berkshire Hospital Paediatric Department covers a large child population of around 125,000 and 5800 deliveries.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Buscot) is a Level 2 Neonatal unit with a total of 16 cots and 2 funded intensive care cots. Babies of over 27 weeks gestation are admitted; those under 27 weeks unable to be transferred out in utero are stabilised locally before transfer. There is also a transitional care unit with 6 beds. We work within the Oxford region, and tertiary neonatal support is offered by John Radcliffe Hospital and neonatal transfer by SONeT (Southampton Oxford Retrieval Team).
Main duties of the job
This is a full-time FY3 post in Neonates at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust available for six months. There is a full shift pattern on the SHO rota, including nights. Weekends are approximately 1:3.
The post involves:
1. Attendance at deliveries both in theatre and on labour ward, as required.
2. Postnatal baby checks and neonatal reviews of babies on the postnatal ward. For example, jaundiced infants, poor feeding, infants on antibiotics, infants with congenital malformations.
3. Working on the neonatal unit: consultant/registrar led ward rounds, responsibilities for admitting patients, patient reviews, bloods and cannulation etc.
4. Active participation in neonatal grand round, teaching and morbidity & mortality meetings.
The post provides training in neonatal medicine. We do not expect any prior experience of Neonatal medicine, and you will receive induction on starting the post. This would suit an applicant interested in a career in Paediatrics, Paediatric Surgery or Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
If the applicant has an interest in continuing a career in Paediatrics, then there may be an option to extend for a further six months in Paediatrics.

Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* Advanced Life Support certification
* GMC registered to practice
* Postgraduate qualifications or diplomas
* Teaching qualifications
Experience
* Completion of Foundation year 2.
* Previous experience of working in the NHS as a doctor.
* Post registration experience working in other specialties relevant to the role.
* Provider status in one of the 2 following: ALS, ATLS
Skills and Knowledge
* Applicant's knowledge is up to date and is safe to practice
* Proven ability to work effectively in different clinical settings required in the job
* Ability to undertake audit/research Evidence of completed QIP
