Role - Nuclear Safety Engineer
Salary: £55,000 - £75,000 depending on experience
Location: Bristol, Burton, Manchester, Warrington or Glasgow offices considered.
Working Pattern: We operate a flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer-Nash, with time split between the office, client sites and working from home.

Your role will encompass providing technical expertise on safety assurance and process engineering for the design, construction, operation, maintenance, defuelling, and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. You'll have a proven history of using your experience and knowledge of nuclear and/or other high hazard industries to assess and justify safety. You'll undertake work for clients on complex and significant nuclear safety related problems and support other staff in planning and performing such work. You'll work through the entire project lifecycle - from identifying opportunities and creating winning bids, to efficient project management and delivery, all the way to the seamless closure of projects. Through this, your contributions will be integral to our continued growth.
The types of projects you could be involved with include:
* Authoring or verifying complex top tier nuclear safety case reports
* Establishing the strategy to justify that a nuclear licensee is safe to operate and overseeing the production of the substantiation and safety case submission
* Being responsible for the design, manufacture, delivery, installation and commissioning of plant items and systems and solving issues as they arise
* Walking down equipment at a nuclear site to ensure it remains qualified to meet functional safety requirements or identify means for its remediation
* Performing qualitative or quantitative assessments (e.g. hazards, process safety, reactor physics, structural integrity etc.) to determine the risks presented to critical plant and identify corrective actions
* Specifying plans to retire and remove of plant, systems and structures to support safe, secure, cost-effective defuelling, dismantling and decommissioning
Key responsibilities for this role will include:
* Develop and implement strategies to overcome various intricate nuclear challenges
* Produce high-quality technical documentation to meet the demands of our clients
* Apply your knowledge and experience across a range of nuclear technologies
* Provide technical guidance, mentorship and training to colleagues and clients
* Manage projects, ensuring they meet time, cost and quality expectations
* Seek out new business opportunities and generate proposals and bids
* Establish and build enduring client relationships
Essential requirements:
* A desire to develop nuclear safety assurance and/or process engineering skills
* Technical expertise within a particular technical field (e.g. mechanical engineering, process engineering, electrical engineering, C&I, numerical analysis, design, hazards, radiological protection and consequences, equipment qualification, severe accidents)
* A proven history of effective technical delivery
* Positive problem-solving and interpersonal skills
* Confident, clear and organised written communicator
* Willingness to travel to client sites as required
Desirable requirements:
* Experience of nuclear safety case processes and submission production
* Exposure to working in highly regulated and/or high hazard industries
* Confidence in developing new business and maintaining client relationships
* Project management experience in a consultancy (or similar) environment
* A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant science or engineering discipline
* Chartered (or working towards) with a professional institution
