Mission & role of the function
The role has full responsibility for leading, directing and managing operational activities within one of the three operating regions Heidelberg Materials Contracting.
The Regional Operations Manager is responsible for achieving safety, environmental, financial and operational performance levels and to constantly seek to improve these performance levels by identifying and pursuing opportunities for operational efficiencies.
Key accountabilities
Health & Safety
* Operating to the highest standards of H&S in line with Hanson's H&S plan and objectives.
* Leading the management of the H&S of Hanson Contracting employees and supply chain on site.
* Ensuring processes and policies are rigorously followed and Safe Systems of Work, Method Statements and Risk Assessments comply with Contracting's Integrated Management System.
* Proactively review and improve performance through safety rep meetings, best practice identification and Panels of Learning.
* Ensuring occupational health of employees is monitored and managed accordingly.
Quality
* Ensuring a 'Right First Time Every Time' approach is followed delivering defect free contracts on completion.
* Work with the technical department and asphalt production colleagues to ensure delivery of innovative and sustainable product solutions.
* Ensuring effective and efficient resource planning of materials, plant and skilled operatives to achieve highest quality contract delivery.
Environment
* Operating to the highest level of environmental objectives in line with Hanson's Environmental Management plan and sustainability targets.
* Ensuring robust processes and procedures are understood and followed within the department, allowing full compliance with all regulations e.g. waste transfer movements; and elimination / avoidance of any environmental incidents.
Client Liaison and Management
* Managing effective and timely communication channels with clients to ensure agreed contract programmes are adhered to.
* Ensuring any departure from the original contract programme is agreed with the client and recorded to protect Contracting's contractual and financial position.
Business Development
* Ensure an effective contribution to bidding for and winning work alongside the commercial colleagues.
* Full contribution to programming work, resource optimisation, operational outputs and targets, method statements and resource allocation.
Finance
* Ensuring operational management understands the commercial objectives and limitations of secured work.
* Ensuring cost and programme control to maximise Contracting's financial returns.
* Ensuring robust site records are maintained to allow the QS team to maximise financial returns.
Compliance
* Ensuring operational compliance on all sites to all relevant statutory legislation and company regulations.
* Operate to the highest level of environmental and health and safety objectives in line with Hanson's sustainability objectives.
* Work in conjunction with the Compliance Manager to ensure the highest standards of health, safety, environmental and quality are adhered to and that best practices are identified and become the norm.

Education/Qualification/Experience
Essential
* NVQ level 5 or HND or degree in relevant area
* asphalt and contracting knowledge
* Detailed road construction and programming knowledge
