Job Description
Are you an experienced Support Worker looking for a new role that is rewarding and provides a sense of satisfaction? Would you like to provide support to a young man in the community to enable him to live life to the full? If the answer to these questions is ‘yes’, then a role with My Life Legacy could be for you!
About us
My Life is a highly respected charity and we are currently seeking an experienced Support Worker to join our growing team of Community staff based in Wigan. My Life was established in 2012 as a result of a group of people with disabilities and their families wanting something different to traditional types of health/social care services and wanting more choice and control over their own lives. My Life currently provides care and support to a growing number of individuals who have complex health and social care needs across the North West of England. Our staff are integral to the success of the charity as they are the ones making a real difference to people’s lives.
Your Responsibilities
There is a Support Worker role available supporting a young man 24/7 to live his best life. He lives alone in his own home but close to his very supportive family. He is a wheelchair user, he has complex epilepsy and he needs assistance with all aspects of daily living including personal care.
This individual usually enjoys a busy week with his support which involves a range of activities including going to the cinema, the pub, shopping, swimming, skiing at Chill factore, speedboating and trampolining. However, at the moment due to COVID, his access to the community is restricted to just swimming. There is still lots to do but activities are currently home based or involve getting out and about locally for some fresh air.
As part of the My Life team, you will ensure that care is provided in a way that respects the individual and promotes his independence.
What you'll need to Succeed
In order to succeed, you will have experience working as a Support Worker/Personal Assistant with people with Learning Disabilities. You will be kind-hearted, fun and you will be highly motivated to make a positive difference to this young man’s life. You will be a flexible team worker with the ability to use your own initiative whilst being caring and sensitive to the needs of others. An understanding of epilepsy would be advantageous along with experience in social care working with people who don’t use words to speak.
You will also hold a full driving licence.
What you'll get in return
In return, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of those you are supporting in the local community whilst benefiting from the following:-
* Full induction/training
* Paid shadowing with experienced staff members
* Regular refresher training
* On-going continuing personal development including gaining qualifications if you
choose to
* Blue Light Card offering hundreds of discounts
* £250 refer a friend bonus scheme
The salary will be up to £11.44 per hour.
