Salary: From £30,000 per annum (dependent on experience, skills & qualifications)

Role & Client Overview:
We are currently recruiting for a Functional Skills English Tutor to join our clients team at HMYOI Werrington. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced English specialist to deliver high-quality education to learners in a prison setting.
As a Functional Skills Tutor, you will work with small groups of learners to develop their English skills, knowledge, and behaviours, while providing support to help them achieve their personal goals and long-term aspirations. You’ll be responsible for designing and delivering engaging and inclusive sessions that support learner progression, while maintaining a focus on quality and positive learner outcomes.
You will also be expected to provide advice, guidance, and mentoring, ensuring that individual learning plans are in place and effectively followed.
Key Responsibilities:
* Deliver Functional Skills English programmes to learners based at HMYOI Werrington.
* Design and implement individual learning plans tailored to each learner’s needs and goals.
* Use a range of engaging teaching and learning strategies to meet individual learning styles.
* Monitor learner progress and maintain accurate records in line with internal and external quality standards.
* Provide ongoing advice, support, and motivation to learners throughout their programme.
* Ensure that all sessions are compliant with internal quality assurance and safeguarding standards.
* Support the wider aims of the organisation in delivering a high-quality learner experience and outcomes.
Essential/Desirable Criteria:
* A minimum of Level 3 in English or equivalent.
* Strong industry knowledge and subject expertise.
* Proven experience of delivering training or tutoring, preferably within an educational or prison environment.
* A recognised teaching or assessing qualification is desirable (e.g., AET, PTLLS, TAQA).
* Ability to apply a variety of teaching methods to engage and motivate learners.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* A proactive, learner-focused approach to education.
Note: If you do not currently hold a teaching or assessing qualification, support will be provided to achieve this during your probationary period.
