Description:
Health & Safety Advisor required to oversee the construction phase of civil engineering projects on behalf of Wills Bros and its clients. The role will be based at our Head Office in Motherwell with travel required to various sites across Scotland. The role is suitable for any Health & Safety professional with a pre-existing background in construction or civil engineering.
The role will involve working closely with the construct team to manage the company’s ISO45001 safety management system, promoting a proactive safety culture, engaging directly with the workforce, inspecting work operations, risk assessing levels of compliance against company and client standards, and working closely with, and reporting performance to company Health and Safety Manager.
Core Competency Requirements:
1. 3 Years+ experience in a Health & Safety advisory role within the construction industry. (Although all candidates with a positive and proactive attitude will be considered).
2. Recognised Qualification in Health & Safety.
3. Valid CSCS Card / or willing to progress quickly.
4. High standard of written English.
5. IT Skills (Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc).
6. Full valid driver’s licence.
Day to Day Duties:
1. Working under the guidance of the company Health & Safety Manager.
2. Advising site management on day-to-day health & safety matters.
3. Building up a good rapport with the client and the workforce.
4. Ensuring compliance with UK Health & Safety Legislation/CDM Regs/Client’s standards.
5. Promoting and encouraging best practice.
6. Coordinating the completion of safety paperwork by supervisors (briefings/inspections).
7. Carrying out daily and weekly site inspections.
8. Delivering toolbox talks on health, safety and wellbeing themes.
9. Attending and chairing safety meetings.
10. Health and wellbeing promotional campaigns.
11. Investigating accidents, incidents and near misses and sharing lessons learned.
12. Reviewing documentation for appropriate health & safety content (method statements etc).
13. Managing the implementation of the project ISO45001 Safety Management System.

Desirable But Not Essential:
1. Experience of working on civil engineering projects.
2. IOSH / IIRSM or other professional Membership.
3. Your CV will list other training qualifications you have accumulated over time.
4. Experience of working within an OHSAS 18001 or ISO 45001 Safety Management System.
