This on-campus position will work at the Broadway main campus location. After six months of successful employment, position is eligible for remote work one day per week.
Position Information
Position Title: Accountant
Position Summary: The Accountant in the Comptroller’s Office is responsible for performing routine and complex accounting and analytical work requiring professional knowledge of the theory and practice of recording, classifying, examining, analyzing accounting records and financial transactions, and generating and monitoring financial reports. The Accountant reports to the Grants Accounting Manager.
Job Duties:
* Post daily banking activity to the general ledger for major operating cash accounts for the university (Operating, Payroll, Disbursements, Online Credit Cards).
* Import large amounts of data and analyze for corresponding reconciliation adjustments.
* Reconcile monthly bank and general ledger transactions, including payroll liabilities and expense accounts.
* Balance sheet account reconciliations and any reconciliations required for quarter close or year-end audit.
* Analyze general ledger accounts; prepare, review, and post journal entries and adjustments.
* Provide supporting documentation and appropriate accounting information to managers and senior staff when necessary.
* Perform account analysis for any discrepancies or variances identified.
* Prepare and assist with year-end audit work papers for external auditors.
* Evaluate cash receipts received at the bank and determine where items should be posted.
* Analyze, review, and perform unrestricted and restricted fund accounting daily.
* Assist with financial reporting for the Comptroller’s office.
* Prepare balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, and any necessary reclassifying entries for financial statement presentation.
* Perform quarter-end and year-end closing entries.
* Assist with preparation of financial board materials for quarterly meetings.
* Document processes and procedures for areas of responsibility.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university.
* Two (2) years of accounting experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications, databases, spreadsheets, and/or word processing.
* Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and technical skills.
* Knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of accounting.
* Ability to analyze and evaluate accounting problems.
* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
* Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, management, community, and general public.
* Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
Work Hours: Mon through Fri 8am to 5pm with extended hours as needed to meet departmental goals.
Salary: $55,000-$60,000 Annualized
