We have an exciting opportunity for an organised and ambitious designated Safeguarding Lead to join our dedicated and enthusiastic Therapeutic & Wellbeing Services team.
The successful candidate will lead on the development, implementation and evaluation of the Hospice's safeguarding strategy, working with the wider MDT to maintain an effective safeguarding culture across the Hospice, managing a complex workload to deliver on key objectives ensuring that key quality standards and compliance targets are met.
You will take the lead responsibility for all safeguarding matters, providing expert safeguarding knowledge to stakeholders within and beyond the Hospice, including healthcare professionals, patients and carers and the wider workforce, including Volunteers.
Main duties of the job
1. Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of the Willen Hospice Safeguarding Strategy.
2. Provide expert safeguarding knowledge to stakeholders within and beyond Willen Hospice, including healthcare professionals, patients and carers, and the wider workforce, including volunteers.
3. Oversight and accountability for safeguarding activity across Willen Hospice services, including identification, alerting, training, reporting, action planning and monitoring.
4. Sustain relationships with local, regional and national safeguarding networks.

Job responsibilities
1. Provide expert and evidence-based leadership on all aspects of safeguarding at Willen Hospice.
2. Collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation, including corporate and commercial services, on the strategic development of safeguarding strategy and process in response to local, regional and national developments.
3. Implement and evaluate the safeguarding strategy across Willen Hospice services, analysing data to identify trends and respond to alerts, feedback and incidents which indicate specific learning and development needs in relation to safeguarding.
4. Align safeguarding strategy with consideration of the growing population of Milton Keynes and underserved groups, taking an inclusive and culturally sensitive and informed approach.
5. Contribute to and participate in audit and clinical governance activities and attend Clinical Governance meetings to ensure continuous service development and care quality improvement.
6. Provide safeguarding activity data as required, contributing to KPIs and statistical information requested by Willen's senior management and leadership teams, the Integrated Care Board and governance mechanisms including CQC.
7. Develop and present reports relating to safeguarding within and beyond the Hospice, as part of quality assurance and governance practices.
8. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Willen Hospice Social Care team, Milton Keynes Social Care services, the Milton Keynes University Hospital-based palliative care and safeguarding teams, community health and social care providers and system forums.
9. Represent the Hospice to maximise the profile of Willen Hospice and bring best practice back to the organisation.
10. Maintain professional registration requirements, and currency relating to legislation and guidance related to safeguarding, including the Health and Care Act, Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty, in order to advise the multidisciplinary team regarding the rights of patients and carers, and to ensure effective implementation of the safeguarding strategy across the organisation.
11. Lead the development and implementation of policies and protocols in relation to safeguarding matters, such as mental capacity, deprivation of liberty and PREVENT.
12. Coordinate, deliver and evaluate training provision relating to safeguarding, mental capacity, deprivation of liberty and PREVENT.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Recognised relevant health and social care degree, e.g. Social Work / Nursing / AHP / Therapy.
Experience
* Safeguarding level 4 training for adults and children.
* Thorough understanding of legislation and statutory guidance in relation to Safeguarding, Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty.
* Sound knowledge of adult protection and awareness of child protection issues, process and legal framework.
* Management and leadership skills.
* Continued professional development in the specialism of safeguarding.
* Experience of leading / implementing strategic developments.
* Experience of working with older people and people experiencing palliative care and at the end of life.
* Deprivation of Liberty Best Interest Assessor.
* Qualified Approved Mental Health Professional.
* Experience as a champion for dementia / domestic violence.
* Masters-level learning.
* Experience facilitating reflective supervision.

Depending on experience £45,000 - £53,000 pro rata per annum, depending on experience.
