H9 Technical Recruitment are hiring for a Deputy Team Leader to work at our clients EfW plant in Wolverhampton to contribute and support the Team Leader in monitoring the operation of the boilers and turbine for the optimum generation of steam.
Roles & Responsibilities
1. Manage and monitor all functions associated with the operation of the plant turbine, boilers, and coordination of incoming and outgoing waste.
2. Accurately anticipate mishaps and maintain control by regular observation of the Direct Control System (DCS) to check temperature flow, pressure readings from the turbine/boiler, readings from control systems, gauges, and alarms.
3. Manage and support the operations team while ensuring compliance with all Company policies and procedures.
4. Accurately report readings and note daily operations in the shift log for continued monitoring and shift changeovers, including reporting on readings from any night shift work and daily emissions.
5. Ensure any planned and unplanned (i.e., emergency) repairs, blockages, and changes in the plant central systems are dealt with appropriately and in a timely fashion.
6. Allocate jobs to all Operations staff on shift.
7. Supervise and implement emergency procedures during any mishap in the absence of the Team Leader.
8. Promptly handle all out of hours (including weekend/night shifts) telephone calls and deliveries.
Operational
1. Monitor all areas of the plant from the control room, including operating the overhead crane for the systematic removal of waste, and accessing all areas of the plant (from height to ground levels) to check instruments, gauges, and take readings and actions as required.
2. Report any plant defects in the shift log and ensure this is entered onto Altair (maintenance software system) or reported directly to the Maintenance Manager and, in their absence, the Plant Manager.
3. Engage in manual handling and the occasional use of plant machinery including Fork Lift Truck (FLT) for outdoor work.
4. Provide support to the Team Leader.
5. Work at height and in confined spaces.
6. Ensure plant cleaning schedules are fulfilled to a satisfactory standard.
Health & Safety
1. Demonstrate safe working practices in line with the Company's Health and Safety policy and procedures.
2. Actively participate in fire drills and evacuation exercises.
3. Report any contravention of statutory and NMOL Safe working practices, including accidents and incidents, to the relevant levels of management.
4. Act as Safety controller within the Company's Permit to Work (PTW) system.
5. Highlight any necessary changes required within Plant Operating Instructions (POIs) and Risk Assessments.
6. Build and maintain strong working relationships with all departments.
Qualifications and Experience
1. Experience and/or understanding of operating high pressure boilers and steam turbine plants.
2. Experience of supervising a team.
3. Qualifications in the use of Fork Lift Truck (FLT); experience with Front Loading Shovel (FLS) vehicle is also advantageous.
4. A current first aid qualification would be desirable.
