We are currently recruiting for an experienced Health & Safety Manager for a prestigious manufacturing organisation in the Letchworth area. This role will not involve managing a team as there are no direct reports - but this position does incorporate considerable responsibility and influence within the business. This position is office based: Monday to Friday.
The main responsibility for this position will be managing the Health & Safety for the company and leading on all Health & Safety matters, ensuring that all compliance is followed in line with Health & Safety guidelines. The successful candidate would have worked previously within the manufacturing sector and will be responsible for reducing the risk of accidents and on-site injuries in the workplace by identifying hazards and putting solutions in place to protect employees and visitors to the site.
Duties and Responsibilities of a Health & Safety Manager:
1. Maintain ISO 45001 Health & Safety Management Standard
2. Conduct regular internal audits and workplace inspections
3. Responsible for ensuring compliance with COSHH Regulations and that all COSHH assessments are carried out.
4. Responsible for ensuring that all risk assessments are created and carried out.
5. Proactively identify hazards in the workplace and implement solutions limiting the risk of accidents.
6. Ensure compliance with RIDDOR.
7. Chair the H & S Committee and facilitate regular meetings, ensuring that actions are delegated appropriately.
8. Successfully implement employee-based training to reduce the risk of accidents and illnesses on site.
9. Regularly check that permits are all documented correctly.
10. Support shifts and visit regularly to ensure compliance across all shifts.
11. Plus many other ad hoc duties associated with a Health & Safety role.
Person Specification of a Health & Safety Manager:
1. Must have worked within a manufacturing environment.
2. Be a strategic individual with a hands-on approach.
3. Previously managed Health & Safety in a Manufacturing or Distribution company.
4. Understanding and experience of ISO 45001.
5. Ideally be NEBOSH diploma qualified.
6. Strong communication skills, able to influence and delegate.
7. Analytic with excellent problem-solving skills.
