Job Title: Test Engineer – Defence & Advanced Engineering
Location: Nationwide – Multiple Sites
Salary: £40,000 - £60,000pa
About the Role
We are looking for skilled Test Engineers to join our growing team, working on cutting-edge defence and advanced engineering projects. This role will involve designing, developing, and implementing test solutions across various domains, including manufacturing test, test equipment development, validation/verification, RF testing, calibration, and maintenance.
You will work on highly complex systems, ensuring mission-critical components meet the highest quality, safety, and performance standards. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a high-tech environment, supporting national security and defence projects.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement test strategies, procedures, and equipment for advanced engineering projects.
Design and develop test rigs, test benches, and automated test systems.
Conduct validation and verification testing to ensure systems meet design specifications and performance requirements.
Perform manufacturing test support, fault diagnosis, and root cause analysis on complex electronic, RF, and mechanical systems.
Develop and execute RF test plans, including antenna, radar, and high-frequency system validation.
Ensure effective calibration and maintenance of test equipment to industry and defence standards.
Work closely with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to improve test processes and ensure smooth production.
Develop automated and manual test scripts for hardware and software validation.
Maintain comprehensive test documentation, reports, and compliance records.
Ensure compliance with industry and defence testing standards (e.g., MIL-STD, DEF STAN).
What We’re Looking For
✅ Degree, HND/HNC, or equivalent experience in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, RF Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
✅ Experience in at least one of the following disciplines:
* Manufacturing Test (fault diagnosis, electronic/electrical testing).
* Test Equipment Design (development of test benches, rigs, automated test setups).
* Validation & Verification (system-level testing, qualification trials, test planning).
* RF Testing (microwave circuits, radar systems, high-frequency measurements, RF chamber testing).
* Calibration & Maintenance (ensuring test equipment reliability and accuracy).
* ✅ Strong understanding of test methodologies, fault-finding techniques, and debugging tools.
* ✅ Experience using test instruments (oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, power analyzers, data acquisition systems, etc.).
* ✅ Knowledge of RF and electronic test automation (e.g., LabVIEW, TestStand, Python, MATLAB).
* ✅ Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, circuit diagrams, and technical documents.
* ✅ Familiarity with defence and aerospace testing standards (an advantage but not essential).
* ✅ Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a highly secure, regulated environment.
* ✅ Must be eligible for UK Security Clearance (British Citizen or a Dual National with British citizenship).
