Opportunities have arisen to join our team of Radiographers, providing Vascular intervention and Neuro intervention services based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital, Stoke-on-Trent.
Full-time, Part time posts available and a Temporary post for approx. 12 months covering maternity cover.
We have 2 full hybrid theatres that includes our recently installed (2021) state of the art Siemens Artis Icono Bi plane Suite taking a mix of Vascular and Neuro Intervention with further discussion taking place for the building of a 3rd Interventional suite.
We currently run a Mon-Fri service and a 24/7 on call service which the candidate will be expected to take part in following a training programme and buddy system. B5 Radiographers once competent for On-call will have an opportunity to move into a B6 position.
Our unit is a busy and friendly Dept, which is rapidly expanding and includes our own Radiology day case unit. We are a leading IR centre for EVAR, TVAR, trauma and Thrombectomy Stroke including other disciplines.
Main duties of the job
1. Undertaking Angiographic duties and procedures as needed.
2. To proactively ensure the efficient and effective running of Interventional/Neuro/Fluoro lists.
3. As band 6 to take a lead role in the absence of the Superintendent and MTL, liaising with colleagues across sites.
4. To participate in the supervision of student Radiographers, Radiographers and Radiology registrars and to make recommendations regarding techniques.
5. To supervise and train support staff.
6. To ensure quality control and assurance procedures are carried out according to departmental schedules.
7. To participate in relevant clinical audit projects.
8. To contribute fully to the provision of the 24 hour IR/Neuro on call service liaising with colleagues to ensure all shifts and on-call duties are covered.
9. To undertake additional duties which may arise and to provide a degree of flexibility in working practice to optimise patient throughput.

Role Summary
To work at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust as an Interventional/Neuro Angio/Fluoroscopy Radiographer with some supervisory responsibilities and to undertake a lead role when required, in the absence of the Team Leader. To be familiar with the departmental Radiology Information System (CRIS) and PACS systems. To ensure quality control and assurance procedures are carried out according to departmental schedules. To represent Imaging and external committees for your modality, if required. To maintain and extend good working relationship with all departments and personnel within the University Hospital of North Staffordshire NHS Trust. To understand and use the PACS system for images. To take responsibility for equipment closedown procedures and security checks. To gain understanding and stock control of consumables used in IR and Neuro. To ensure that there is a high standard of Diagnostic Imaging work produced both personally and by those being supervised. On a rostered duty can organise own workload and delegate and supervise other members of the team working in the vicinity. Can prioritise workload to manage the care for a group of patients. When rostered in charge, take action to ensure safe staffing levels on each shift. When rostered in charge, have an overview of workload across the department. To assist with arranging for collection of a patient and organising all relevant members of staff when called in for emergency cases on-call. To have the manual dexterity, coordination and sensory skills for positioning and manipulation of patients and equipment to fine tolerances as accuracy is important. To facilitate the transfer of patients liaising with other wards and Departments. To plan and prioritise patient workload and theatre lists, ensuring the smooth running of the theatres with minimal downtime. This includes liaising with ward staff and other theatres to ensure timely transfer of patients to and from IR theatre. To have a working knowledge of IR (ME) R 2018 / IRR17 regulations and radiation protection matters. Assist in the management of resources by participating in the selection, ordering and monitoring of departmental stock items, keeping within the financial constraints of the allocated budget. Will be required to be able to undertake a range of manual procedures including assistance with the movement of patients and equipment. To be able to manoeuvre between patients quickly to ensure emergency situations can be attended in a timely fashion. Will be required to wear full theatre gown and lead aprons whilst standing at the operating table for considerable periods of time. Ability to interpret complex information when there may be frequent, unplanned interruptions throughout the shift. May be exposed to distressing circumstances when called in for emergency cases on call and potentially dealing with bereaved relatives. Working in a theatre environment where X-Ray radiation is in use. Daily exposure to blood and body tissues. Frequent exposure to body fluid and unpleasant odours during the delivery of direct patient care. The post holder will demonstrate the skills for assessing and interpreting specialist, Acute and other patient conditions, initiating actions as appropriate.
