The position will be full time, although the successful candidate will be expected to work alternating shifts on a weekly basis: 06.00–14.00 and 14.00-22.00. There will also be the expectation to work Saturdays 08.30–16.30 (one in four, based on a rota system) for which paid overtime is given at time and a half.
About the Role
HSDC is looking to appoint a Facilities Operative to join our team at the South Downs Campus.
This role is to provide effective facilities support to the Campus and ensure the buildings and surrounding areas are maintained to the required standards. To be responsible together with other members of the Facilities Team for the security of the Campus buildings. The role also involves various statutory compliance (fire safety and water hygiene) checks for which training is provided.
You will also be expected to participate in the on-call rota which is one week in seven for which additional on call payments are made.
Candidates will possess excellent customer service skills and, ideally, will have previous experience of working within a Facilities or Estates Management environment.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
* To assist in facilitating community engagement activities/lettings with set up/clear down of activities and customer facing communication onsite
* Be responsible for the unlocking of buildings or the locking up of buildings ensuring all windows are checked and closed.
* Carry out statutory maintenance checks such as fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, refuge call points, fire alarms, water temperatures, fire doors, etc.
* Carry out water flushing routine for infrequently used outlets especially out of term time.
* Ensure that electrical equipment and lights are switched off when not in use.
* Ensure that all fire exits, and entrances (internal and external) are not obstructed or locked.
* To be conversant with all buildings layout, entry/exit points, isolation points, safety systems and equipment.
Requirements
You will need:
* Good general education to include Maths and English to Grade C, or willingness to undertake.
* One day Emergency First Aid At Work course or willing to undertake
* Experience of working within a Facilities environment.
* Practical knowledge of the H&S at Work Regulations
* Proven experience of delivering a customer focused service.
