TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT
Staying ahead of the competition, offering the huge range and high-quality and authentic Spanish products that our customers have come to expect from Brindisa coupled with the ever-demanding UK food safety regulations and industry good practice; is where our Technical Team fit in. In addition, they are responsible for quality management, supplier and internal audits, right through to dealing with local authorities and health and safety inspectors.
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
To use the HACCP tools to assess and monitor Brindisa’s products and suppliers and to provide technical advice on all food handling operations throughout Brindisa. To help ensure the business operations comply with the highest levels of quality and safety by providing a strong auditing resource to the Technical team. To actively identify opportunities to deliver solutions for continuous improvement and best practice across all sites. To deputise for the Technical and Compliance Manager.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Work closely with the Technical and Compliance Manager to develop a clearly defined and documented quality and safety management system to control the safe and legal wholesaling, storage and distribution of high quality and authentic products.
2. Work closely with the Technical and Operations teams to ensure BRCGS S&D and Soil Association certifications are consistently renewed. Investigate deviations from procedures and suggest improvement to achieve objectives.
3. Assist the Technical team with and contribute to the development and improvement of the company quality and safety culture.
4. Coordinate the internal audits for the Brindisa Retail sites. Carry out scheduled visits to ensure compliance with company’s protocols, industry regulations and best practice, providing advice to the teams where necessary. Report findings to Technical and Compliance Manager and audit report drafting.
5. Support the Technical and Compliance Manager on category product and supplier approval ensuring internal procedures and regulatory requirements are followed, including Brindisa and Perelló branded lines.
6. Liaise with Buyers to ensure successful products launch.
7. Advise suppliers on UK best practice on product labelling to ensure regulations are met.
8. Assist with translations of labels and other materials.
9. Share with the Technical team the responsibility of complaints handling. Quarterly analysis highlighting trends as appropriate to the Technical and Compliance Manager and Buyers.
10. Monitor suppliers’ performance and assess vulnerabilities on a regular basis, providing feedback to the Technical and Compliance Manager as necessary.
11. Liaise with customers and suppliers on technical enquiries, ensuring investigation as necessary, follow-up and completion on outstanding issues and requests.

13. Maintain technical files (supplier, product and customer records)
14. Assist the Technical and Compliance Manager with the Cheese Rooms Quality and Safety Management System.
15. To operate within all Brindisa policies and procedures.
16. Support with functional and cross-functional projects and continuous improvement activities.
17. Share with the Technical team the responsibility for carrying out induction training for all Balham based staff.
18. To undertake additional tasks, commensurate with status, after consultation and the provision of necessary support and training if appropriate.
HEALTH & SAFETY
All staff have a responsibility to maintain health and safety of self and others within the performance of duties in accordance with the company health and safety policy and to undertake specific health and safety responsibilities as directed.
FOOD SAFETY
All staff have the responsibility to adhere to the Hygiene and Safety Policy and company protocols, and to always act so as to not to jeopardise the integrity, safety, legality and quality of Brindisa products.
In particular, as a member of the Technical team, the Technical Coordinator has the duty of leading by example.
EXPERIENCE
1. Certified Food Management/Health & Safety qualification
2. Spanish Speaker/Spanish language qualification
3. At least 2 years’ experience undertaking a similar role
4. Previous relevant sector experience
5. Experience of working unsupervised in a methodical manner
6. To respond to changing priorities and to meet deadlines.
7. Experience of workplace inspections/audits to a high standard and produce written reports
8. Experience of conducting workplace risk assessments on a range of work activities.
KNOWLEDGE
1. Demonstrate a good knowledge of health and safety, food law and industry best practice.
2. Broad general awareness of structures and business issues within food retail and wholesale environment.
3. Knowledge of Spanish products.
KEY SKILLS/ABILITIES
1. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
2. Good organisational and time management skills.
3. Good interpersonal skills/able to work as part of a team
4. Good investigative skills-particularly listening and questioning
