As a Head of Stations Integration at HS2 you will be responsible for establishing and leading the Stations Delivery Directorate integration capability working across all four HS2 Stations (value c. £10bn) to ensure that HS2 Ltd remains forward looking and proactive in addressing integration challenges. This is a project management role leading a team of Senior Project Managers and Project Managers in addition to collaborating with a multi-functional team across the Stations Directorate and the wider HS2 programme. You will need a knowledge of railway stations as a key part of this role is defining and executing the Stations Handover and Transitions Strategy which will ultimately support the delivery of the HS2 stations into operational service. About the role: This role is accountable for leading Stations delivery integration capability working closely with the four Phase One Stations, Programme Integration Unit, and functional and stakeholder structures of the overarching HS2 Programme and delivering in line with HS2's integration behaviours and ways of working. The role is responsible for enabling, taking and recommending best for programme decisions, to ensure successful delivery of the whole Stations programmes on behalf of the Stations Delivery Directorates. The role will work with a wide range of internal (to HS2) and external stakeholders to identify and resolve integration challenges. These will range from the Civils Integration Unit, Systems Delivery Integration Unit, matrix functions such as the PMO, commercial, engineering and IM, main contractors and designers, through to external stakeholders such as DfT, ORR, HSE, Fire Authorities, Network Rail and TfL. The role will drive the continued development and improvement of milestone planning and reporting as characterised by the Configuration States & Migration Plans such that these plans proactively address integration challenges across Stations and other Phase One contracts and identify the criticality of less tangible but equally important aspects of integration. The role will influence and drive the agendas of relevant high-level governance and progress meetings across the programme so that the right conversations are held and best for programme decisions are made in a timely manner. The role will be responsible for horizon scanning and organised piloting, sifting integration risks and opportunities and escalating to the Programme Integration Unit so that Phase level contingency is allocated appropriately and presents value for money. The role will hold the organisation to account to make timely decisions and seek beneficial mitigation actions. The role will be accountable for providing clear reports and data setting out the progress of integration, together with the risks and issues faced by the business. This information will be used to influence stakeholders to achieve the aims of the Stations Directorate. The role will continuously assess the quality of the integration capability being offered by HS2, drawing upon benchmarks and lessons from other projects such that it is able to propose changes based on programme needs (including Integration Capability Roadmap, Capability assessments etc.). The role will proactively address the future needs of the Stations programmes and lead the development of the directorates to meet the operational needs for delivery of the end state railway. This will focus on driving the capability to bring stations into use, using configuration states as a basis to plan for the authorisation required at each stage. About You: Skills: Programme management - the ability to plan and integrate multiple strategic programmes of large civic construction work to achieve target costs and project benefits. Stakeholder management skills - the ability to manage diverse stakeholder groups including central government, local government, professional bodies, HS2, and JV board stakeholders. Complex problem solving - identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. This includes the management and planning of multiple workstreams and the competing demands of stakeholders. Clear Direction - Defining and prioritising objectives, analysing inputs, assessing and challenging data, defining strategies and supporting rationales. Decision Quality - Gathering and synthesising information, identifying options and applying sound judgement based on logic and reason, making use of a variety of analytical approaches to provide relevant information to suppliers, stakeholders and decision makers using key facts and data. Relationship Management - Ability to establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and suppliers to resolve emergent risk situations. Influencing & Negotiating - the ability to influence and negotiate with internal functions and external supply chain partners. Knowledge: Best practice IPT management principles and matrix organisations. Understanding the elements of a project and programme, defining cost breakdown structures and their relationship to work breakdown structures. Knowledge of Railway Stations, their functionality and the engineering integration principles that underpins bringing a railway into service. Understanding the relationship between contract reporting, project cost reporting, programme and business reporting and the criticality of this to business performance. Understanding of the nature of the relevant contract structures and the design and application of appropriate contract and supplier performance systems. Understanding of risk identification and analysis and contingency management across multiple projects and portfolios. Understanding of project schedule management, dependencies and risk assessment Type of experience: Experience of delivering integrated infrastructure with multiple assets to time, cost and quality considerations. Experience of leading the commissioning of stations, bringing into use and authorisation into service. Experience of managing commercial contracts with multiple procurement routes to time, cost and quality requirements. Experience of embracing innovation, improvements and efficiencies Experience of managing and/or influencing governance forums including partnering boards, collaboration boards, local/regional political stakeholders and JV partner boards with delegated decision-making powers of multi-millions of pounds. Experience of developing and narrating reports at multiple levels with business and government. Experience of leading small direct reporting teams and working with matrixed teams and resource. Degree level qualification in project management, engineering, commercial management, or the equivalent experience, including NEC3 ECC Accreditation or Chartered Status from a relevant professional body.
