Offshore Geotechnical Engineer
The Offshore Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and interpreting geotechnical investigations to support the design and installation of offshore structures, including wind turbine foundations, oil & gas platforms, subsea pipelines, and seabed installations. The role involves interpretation, data analysis, and foundation design/installation recommendations while ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Site Investigation Planning & Execution
o Develop geotechnical investigations scopes of work (SOW) for offshore projects.
o Select appropriate sampling and in-situ testing methods (CPT, boreholes, vane shear, etc.).
2. Data Analysis & Reporting
o Interpret soil laboratory test results (triaxial, consolidation, cyclic testing).
o Develop geotechnical design parameters (shear strength, stiffness, bearing capacity).
o Prepare Geotechnical Interpretive Reports (GIRs) and Foundation Design Reports (FDRs).
3. Foundation Design Support
o Provide geotechnical input for pile design, suction caissons, and shallow foundations.
o Perform axial and lateral pile capacity calculations (API, DNV, ISO methods).
o Perform pile installation analysis (pile driveability, refusal, set-up effects).
o Support FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) and detailed design phases.
4. Compliance & Standards
o Ensure adherence to ISO 19901-8, API RP 2GEO, DNV-RP-C212, and client specifications.
o Participate in risk assessments (HAZID/HAZOP) related to geotechnical uncertainties.
o Review third-party reports and contractor deliverables for technical accuracy.
5. Project & Client Management
o Coordinate with civil, structural, and marine teams for integrated solutions.
o Provide technical support during offshore construction and installation.
o Communicate findings to clients, regulators, and certification bodies.
Requirements:
* 5-10 years experience in offshore geotechnics and foundations design.
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering.
* Good knowledge of offshore drilling, CPT interpretation, soil-structure interaction and geotechnical data interpretation.
* Experience with at least one finite element analysis (PLAXIS, ABAQUS) or pile design software (GRLWEAP, SPLICE, APILE, LPILE, SETTLE3D) would be a plus.
* Willingness to learn and proactive mindset.
* Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and offshore environments.
