We have a vacancy for an enthusiastic, well-motivated secretary to join our medical secretarial team within the surgery and Critical care division at Royal Lancaster Infirmary or Westmorland General Hospital. Current or recent Secretarial experience, with a typing qualification is desirable, together with excellent English language skills. Knowledge of medical terminology and IT systems would be an advantage, although training will be given.
Working as part of a small team, you will be required to liaise with patients and a number of internal and external departments, agencies and providers; therefore highly developed communication skills are essential.
The post holder will be expected to provide a robust and comprehensive secretarial and administration service to the Specialty team, Service Managers, Senior Medical Staff and their teams.
Main duties involve:
Creating letters and typing of clinical letters from dictation
• Being the crucial point of contact for patients and care providers
• Provide administration and secretarial support to the speciality
• Responsible for all aspects of a named clinicians administration
• Daily use of Microsoft office packages.
• To organise and attend meetings when required
• Ability to take minutes for meetings.
• Checking and updating patient information e.g. results and discharges
• Answering patient queries via telephone
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
