Role Purpose The postholder will provide strategic direction and management for the Chief Executives office, committee operations, and governance support. This includes offering personal support to senior leaders, ensuring smooth navigation through a complex political environment, and guaranteeing compliance with governance arrangements in accordance with local government legislation. The role involves: Collaborating closely with senior leadership to achieve corporate priorities and organisational goals. Leading a high-performing team that delivers proactive and effective support to the leadership team and other stakeholders. Overseeing the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and strategies to ensure effective governance and decision-making. Managing sensitive and high-profile issues, maintaining discretion and professionalism at all times. What We Are Looking For The ideal candidate will have: Experience: Demonstrable experience in a similar role within the public sector or local government. Governance Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of governance arrangements, constitutional requirements, and local authority decision-making processes. Political Awareness: A strong ability to identify risks, manage stakeholder expectations, and provide timely advice to senior officers and elected members. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and present to diverse audiences. Leadership: Proven experience in effective line management, with a talent for motivating and developing teams.
