Due to some exciting internal staff movement we have some fantastic opportunities in our Pre School Complex Needs, Neuro- Developmental and Complex Needs in Mainstream Pathways in the Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service in Brighton and Hove. We are looking for enthusiastic and committed Band 7s to;
Lead our Pre-School Complex Needs Team of Speech and Language Therapists and Speech and Language Therapy Assistants.
Lead our Complex needs in Mainstream schools Team of Speech and Language therapists.
Be an integral member of the Neuro-Developmental Diagnostic Pathway.
The roles have a high clinical component and excellent clinical skills with at least 2 years experience in complex needs are required. Some previous experience of supervision & management would be an advantage.
The CDC offers an excellent environment for multidisciplinary working and this role dovetails with those of the Early Years and Mainstream B7s to provide a comprehensive offer. There is a strong and supportive Band 7 Speech and Language Therapy network in the locality – and across the wider Trust.
These are Clinical Lead roles for Brighton and Hove, the applicant would work in conjunction with the Clinical Leads from neighbouring West Sussex. There are regular county wide meetings to review cases and opportunities to be part of a wider multi-disciplinary team ensuring a high quality service is delivered to children across CDCs and Schools.
The ideal candidate will be able write complex clinical reports based on assessment findings. They will have knowledge and skills suitable to be able to contribute to projects, data collection and strategic developments within the relevant pathway.
Some experience of managing or supervising a small team would be an advantage.

1. To provide assessment, diagnosis and management to children within the designated caseloads, providing highly specialist care plans.
2. To provide advice to other professionals and parents in order to support the needs of children with speech, language and communication delay and disorder in specialist area.
3. To organise caseloads within the scope of the highly specialist post advising the Team Lead of shortfalls and difficulties as they arise.
4. To negotiate with parents, carers and others Multi-Disciplinary team members around individual case management, demonstrating compassion and empathy alongside well developed negotiation skills and management of conflict.
5. To be responsible for administration and record keeping conforming to Departmental and Trust regulations concerning the format and security of patient records and the Data Protection Act.
6. To be aware of, and adhere to, legal requirements relating to the provision of a Speech and Language Therapy Service and of procedures relating to Child Protection.
7. To recognise own professional boundaries and seek advice and support as appropriate.
8. To lead in the development of innovative practices, projects and therapy packages in specialist area in collaboration with the wider SLT management team.
9. To participate in the development of Team and Service clinical policies and plans as directed by SLT management team.
10. To provide timely and accurate statistics as required by the Department.
11. To provide appropriate and timely reports and other client related correspondence, according to service standards and requirements of other agencies.
12. To retain own clinical competency to practice at a highly specialist level
13. To use advanced knowledge, skills and expertise to facilitate and drive future service development.
14. To work with Professional Leads to ensure delivery of evidenced based clinical practice.
15. To facilitate and contribute to the delivery of a robust clinical supervision structure in line with Trust policy.
16. To ensure all staff work to appropriate competency frameworks and work with the locality team lead to manage performance of staff through the appraisal and supervision process.
17. To assist in the recruitment process, including shortlisting and interviewing candidates against agreed criteria
18. To provide training and mentoring to less experienced staff within clinical specialism
19. To provide high level clinical expertise and decision making regarding patient care.
20. To support Band 6 and Band 5 clinicians with complex case management, caseload management, prioritisation skills and delegation skills.
21. To work alongside other leads to oversee and support clinical workloads, integrating skill sharing initiatives.
22. To enable and support undergraduate speech & language therapy student placements within the relevant clinical areas of work and support the band 6 staff supervising the students.
23. To provide performance information to service managers to support the delivery of KPIs, management of demand and capacity and to inform future workforce, skill mix requirements and service development.
24. To organise and deliver in service training to clinical staff and to the wider MDT as appropriate.
25. To be responsible for ensuring effective induction for all staff and relevant students within the area of responsibility
