Rotherham, in line with national requirements, provides extended access to routine general practice appointments on weekday evenings (6.30pm - 8.30pm) and weekends (8am - 5pm). This is provided from five general practices acting as hubs in North, South, and Central locations in the Borough. Appointments are available for patients registered with any of the 28 general practices in Rotherham with a range of clinicians, to offer the convenience of a routine appointment out of core hours. A GP will be present in the practice, providing medical cover and support for clinicians on all shifts.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for the delivery of routine healthcare provision to Rotherham's general practice patients. Supported by senior clinicians within the practice, they will deliver care within the boundaries of their role, focusing upon health promotion, prevention of ill health, and the maintenance and monitoring of long-term conditions and screening activities.
They will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and work under the supervision of the registered nurse and senior clinicians.

Job responsibilities
Carry out the venepuncture procedure effectively and sensitively, ensuring respect for the patient's welfare, dignity, and preferences. This is essential for obtaining a standard sample suitable for laboratory analysis while minimising any distress or discomfort for the patient. It is important to obtain accurate blood-to-chemical ratios and use appropriate blood collection bottles based on the tests required to collect all necessary samples.
Confidentiality in handling patient information is crucial, and proficiency in using IT systems is necessary. Strong keyboard skills are required to interact with electronic patient record systems, such as SystmOne and ICE, for accessing, viewing, and printing patient blood test requests.
Maintaining health, safety, and well-being is a priority. Proper and safe usage and disposal of equipment and sharps are essential, along with effective communication with colleagues when required.
Ensure that workstations are cleaned and maintained after venepuncture procedures, in accordance with Infection Control and Health & Safety policies. To liaise and communicate with colleagues when necessary.

* Venepuncture certificate NVQ L2 in Health, Care Certificate or relevant experience.
